Default How to build a salt flat racer question

I have a friend who is looking to get a bike to race at the Bonneville salt flats. He is looking to beat the 600cc class record of 164mph. Now I dont know if it stock or modified class. He is looking to get a cbr600rr. Now what mods would you add to achieve that speed? I mentioned to him a power commander and full exhaust. Is there anything else you would recommend at all

Change the sprockets to give it a higher top speed.
Only thing is 164mph does not sound like any record for a 600cc SS unless it is bone stock, which in that case you couldn't do any mods to it.

If it's stock class it'll all come down to weight, tires/tire pressure and aerodynamics.

Yep, except a diet.

A trick that a lot of motogp riders use is rubbing cheetah blood on the motor before every race, that might help.

There are hundreds of classes. 600cc single or multiple cylinder, stock or modified, gas or other fuel, naturally aspirated or blown, naked or streamlined and on and on. You really have to do your homework to know where you fit in and if you qualify.

All glass has to come off and all nuts and bolts need to be wired (they don't want junk littering the salt). Tire type is important as what is allowed in the class may slow you down. One complaint is traction. Take your kitchen floor and cover it with table salt, slick stuff to get moving in. The flats are made of salt.

There are reasons why those records hold, they are not easy to beat.
