Hell Yeah, HD (as in High-Def) time! Need suggestions.
Also note that any THX certified DVD will have a video setup feature helping you to ensure you have the correct color, contrast and brightness.

For the price your looking at Best Buy has the 42" Toshiba for $1300. Its a great tv for gaming or just watching cable tv. Its 1080P and has all the goodies minus the 120 herts which is nice but not necessary.

I didn't read all posts so this might have already been said, but I saw on the news today that HD DVD's are going away and BluRay disksare going to be the only thing out there... didn'tcatch the whole story but I think thisis happening soon.
Get a plasma with anti-glare, Ive got a 42inch Panasonic Vierra and my step-dad has a 50" Pioneer Kuro. Burn in is no longer a major problem with plasmas and the pic is much better IMO. If you want bright colours go lcd, but for a more realistic pic with darker blacks go plasma.
watch the papers...my wife and i got a 56" samsung DLP(1080p) with an xbox 360 for $1600 from best buy...only two per store...keep an eye out...halo 3 and moto gp 07 are insane on a tv like that

I didn't read the thread at all, so forgive me if I repeat anything.
DO NOT BUY A PLASMA!
You need an LCD panel if you are planning on hooking up a computer or doing any sort of gaming on it. Plasmas have slightly better color, but they're not as bright or as crisp as an LCD. Not to mention plasmas suck tremendous amounts of power compared to LCD's (LCD's are about 1/3 to a 1/2 less power consumption)
Now the big part, the shiny, reflective screens. Plasmas have them (some Panasonics has a "anti-glare" coating on some plasma's, but it doesn't work right and mucks up the picture more than it does good.)
Samsung LCD's (the newer ones) look exceptional, but have a glossy coating over the screen. We have a 46" shiny screen Samsung in the living room AND IT'S HORRIBLE. The picture is outstanding, but the glare coming from the screen from just having light in the room in unbearable. We don't even have windows behind us, but we can still see ourselves in the screen during the day, while we are watching it. And plasma's have a glossy screen as well.
Now this leaves you with non-glossy screen LCD's. And my recommendation (for myself and to anyone looking for LCD's.) is to get a Sony first, Toshiba second. If you can, get an XBR-series Sony. (the new ones are XBR4 and 5's) or even the V3000-series Sony's. They're all 1080p and have THE BEST picture among the common LCD's you can get at Best Buy or Circuit City.
I would also highly recommend Toshiba as well. If you can, look into the CinemaSeries.........THOSE are the Toshiba's to get! If not, the Regza's are increcible as well. I used to own a 42" Toshiba Regza 1080p, and I replaced it with an older model Sony V-Series (the V2500). I do miss my Toshiba though, had better blacks than the Sony V2500's.........and was 2 inches bigger. But oh well.
I worked at Best Buy as an Installation Tech (and no, not like those jackasses they're hiring now.) The difference between me and the normal Best Buy people is that I actually KNEW what I was talking about, everyone else would just make up BS to get the customer out of their hair. I took pride in my job, but since no one else (not even managers) took pride in their work, I just left. It was getting depressing to work for people who hated their jobs.

I made my purchase this weekend, picked up a Philips 42" 1080p non-Ambilight version. I love it! Also picked up an A30 HD-DVD player that came with 300 and the Bourne Identity along with a rebate for 5 more free HD-DVDs. I know HD-DVD is dead, leave me alone, I wanted it to upscale all my old DVDs too; plus, they will be cheaper soon
