Hell Yeah, HD (as in High-Def) time! Need suggestions.
I do a lot of gaming, so that will definitely be in 1080p, which is another reason I am going to avoid Plasma. I never had a desire to get a plasma. I am also buying at either Costco, which has a 2 year warranty with 90 day money back, so I should be ok as far as returns and malfunctions, but I am trying to avoid those issues if at all possible. I have been checking http://www.avsforum.com for reviews and issues with specific models.

the ex has a 47" regza they are super nice but she paid like 2K for the biotch... I have a 37" olevia its only in 1080i but it has the 2 hdmi 2 composite 2 component vga and usb. got that sucker for 550 on black friday...pretty bad azz and good quality for a generic! actually i have read great reviews on the olevias may be somethin to consider. pretty confident they have the 1080p's as well. Id be scared of newegg by the way hear a lot of DOA's come from there. wouldnt by a tv unless you can physically take it home but thats just me.
Check out Panasonic as well. (they are plasma, that means less viewing angles)
If you are buying it mostly for gaming go with an lcd with the highest refresh rate you can find, plasma's are more for watching movies (wider viewing angles, deeper blacks, higher contrast)

Careful with refresh rates. Higher is not always better. Make sure that you can select the higher or lower rate for different types of inputs. Certain programming actually looks worse with higher refresh. Movies made before this technology came out were made specifically for 60hz. New games, HD movies, PCs, and the like will look better, but if you have older media that you like to watch, you'll want to turn that refresh rate back down. It'll smooth it back out. Some cable TV stations have problems with high refresh as well.
You mentioned playing a lot of games on it though, so I'm guessing that your stuff is mostly newer, HD capable, so in that case, crank the refresh up and forget about it, lol. Gamers tend to favor extremely high black levels, so you may want to put some weight in that. Again, oldermedia maylook odd, but the new stuff looks way better because its made for it.
avsforum is a good spot to get specific feedback. Those guys know their stuff. You can find model-specific info on just about everything out there and how to get it set up just right. It's not so much that you get a sweet TV, but spend the time to set it up right. You can get a basic DVD pack from walmart that will help professionally adjust the video settings for about 50 bucks. Sometimes you can get the retailer to throw one in with the set. The ones the pros use to adjust the set run about 200.

No intent to knock anyone who has posted thus far on this thread but LG and Samsung are no longer bueno. I work around this stuff all day long b/c i am v/p sales for a high end home theater corporation. Dont look at any specs you may find because it is all bull. Go look at the televisions available. A sure bet is to go with the new Panasonic Plasma that is coming out. You said you play games so with a plasma you have the better contrast (no matter what the specs say) and you dont have to worry about refresh rate) I dont know the model off hand but they are supposed to have a 46" 1080p for around $1200. Panasonic plasmas are quite cheap and are great tv's. when you figure what you want, shop around and let me know. I will hookyou up. go check out www.hometheaterstore.com. i am in charge of the retail division MODIA.
Like I said, make a decision for yourself but dont make it by some spec sheet. go look at what you like and make a decision that way.

I just bought a 42" Vizio Gallevia 1080p and its real nice. I use it for games and vids and I'm am very pleased with it.
Got mine at sears. They are getting rid of a bunch of displays and older models.

It only shows a few supported pc resolutions, but I can run any game at 1920x1080 with no problems (of course thats up to your pc capabilty).
I'm just using the VGA for now. I'll later order a DVI to HDMI cable for a digital signal.
