Does anyone ride a junk bike just for fun?
I got the GS500 going today. I was feeling good about the bondo holding gas in the gas tank, yeah it is a real gem. I go down to the gas station and a guy rides up on a '07 600rr. He comes over and just starts trashing my bike. I was like ok radom guy you are right this bike is junk, who cares? I think your bike is sweet but I would rather have several to ride than the latest and greatest because I enjoy riding different bikes. Anyone else have something that they can kick over and laugh? Here is a picture of the GS. the entire knee cutouts are filled with a whole lot of bondo. I think I have $200 into the bike with the new battery. Runs great
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a beater bike, man, and it kinda bugs me when people trash any bike like that kid did.
Looks like you did a pretty dam decent job on this one, too.
I don't know if I would even necessarily call it a beater... I mean it's not perfect, but it's not all bashed to hell, either. I've seen some WAY rougher beaters!
Nice bike, man!

I love beater bikes. You thrash and trash'em and find parts super cheap. Fun to ride. Still leaves you with pocket change for drinks at the bar.You don't need the newest or greatest bike to have fun. It is all about riding, not what you own.
I had a GS500 for a couple of years. I found it to be a great all rounder, toured, back road thrashed it. Did everything I wanted (except go r-e-a-l fast), but that's not why I bought it. If I can find it, I have an Aussie bike mag review somewhere with the test rider not only putting his knee on the deck, but his hand as well (no, he wasn't falling over).
Anyway, anybody that rags another persons ride, either knows that person really well & is having a bit of fun or is seriously looking to get his head punched in.
It's really impolite, sure we may think someones bike looks or goes like crap, but its their choice & you have to respect it.

Eh don't pay dudes like that any mind. Some people just don't understand the concept of giggling to themselves like the rest of us and need to put another person down to boost their low self-confidence.
And of course there's nothing wrong with an 'ole beater!! I'm sure a lot of us here started with a less-than-ideal ride and have a lot of fond memories of learning on a junker!

this was my first bike, and I loved it. I've been thinking about buying a 80s bike here locally lately there have been a few great deals for around 500 bucks or so. Nothing wrong with a classic. I got more compliments on my old as hell little Honda then I do on my Custom F4i!
