It must suck not being able to split lanes cause over here everyone does.

I once heard someone joking that the only reason california is still able to split lanes is thanks to the chp.

It's worse during hot august nights, so many people come to reno for that. Not a good time to be on 80 or 395.

I actually ride with the traffic and stay where I am most of the time for one reason: Philly drivers don't know how to drive and watch out for motorcyclists, scooters or even pedestrians.

I occasionally will be a car or two behind and go to the right and pass the car when the light is red waiting to turn green, but only occasionally. I have seen cars that are far left, and make a right turn and don't even have their signals on. I have even see cars that are on the far right and turn left without their signals on.

All of this is why I say Philly drivers can't drive--and it is not about physical skills of driving, but more about the safety and following the rules.

On the highway, I pass, but only on a few highways. If I am on any of the local highways, I am pretty much riding like Ms. Daisy because these roads are way too accident prone.

On the turnpikes, then I will open it up and be out.

For me it is more of a safety issue, because for that one car that don't see me, its all up to me to make sure that I make it out of the situation alive, and many motorcyclists loose that battle if in a crash with a car.

I want to stay alive and make it to my destination alive. I've seen and read and watched on the news about a motorcycle rider down because of an accident with a car.

Its not worth it!

...
I watch out for pedestrians! If I don't watch them as they tumble under the front end of the car, how can I tally em up for my final score of the day?

Seriously though. Philadelphians suffer from a sense of entitlement. They believe they are entitled to the entire road at all times and are allowed to do anything they wish at any time. If you're in the lane next to them, they're often thinking to themselves "WTF does that person think they are doing occupying MY other lane???". I've seen a few guys try to split lanes here but they usually give it up in a few blocks when the cars start working together to shut down the gaps (preferably with the cyclist between the 2 cars)
