Destination weddings

So my and my girl got engaged last weekend :icon_clapclap: and now it is time that we start thinking about what kind of wedding we want. I kinda like the idea of a destination wedding. Has any CBRF members done a destination wedding? If so where did you go? How many people did you have attend? Did you have a wedding planner help you? Do you think it was cheaper than a traditional wedding? Any info would be great.

I had a tradition asain wedding where guest brings red $$$ envelopes & some western culture brought gifts. We had roughly 50 tables = 500 guest...at the Hilton, no wedding planner, limo, cakes, flowers, etc total cost of wedding= $65,000, red envelopes, gift cards & gifts in return roughly $38,000, end up spending $27k for wedding....now this is an averaged 500 guest wedding...nothing out of the ordinary...even wedding gown & suit was rented...

If I have know....Vegas wedding would be somewhat cheaper & simple...but don't gamble your money away...

return

Damn son 500 people there is a crap ton. We only want 100 max. $27k is out of our price range. I am trying to convince her to go to Vegas. I think it would be awesome and something different that none of our other friends have done. I also like the idea of getting married in Aruba but I don't know how much of a hassle that is and I don't want any of these guest thinking they are going on a vacation and staying there with us on our honeymoon.

Trust me...we started at about 100-150 guest...then family gets involved, in laws, relatives etc....I end up only knowing about 1/5 of all guest...if you have a traditional wedding, expect it to grow about twice or 3x as much...so make sure you keep it under control ( but if your family gets involves and some even offer to help pay) then it's out of your control. That's what happen to us, we wanted a small wedding, then family members get involve with their suggestion which increase cost, and when family offers to help pay some cost partial, then it gets out of control.

I'll rate three stage...

Small: about $30-40 per guest.

Medium: about $50-60 per guest

Large: about $70-80 per guest.

High end: about $90-100 per guest

Now if each guest bring wedding gift equal the amount cost per guest, you'll break even.

In my case, we started out at the motel 6 & holiday inn, then end up a the Hilton.

All girls wants the Fancy Hilton Wedding...even if they don't admit it. Right from then get go...I admitted I only can afford a motel 6 wedding at most....but family members blew it up. From wedding pictures to table center piece that guest takes home...when you start making the list...it's endless...$$$$....damn even the table cover & seat cover cost $4 each...x 500 chairs just renting.

Chit...that's just for dinner reception...I have not added to church & photo reception...add another $10-20 per guest

This is exactly what we don't want to happen. Luckily she has a very small family and mine isn't too big either. I do not have a problem saying no to people who want to invite people I don't know. We are very firm on our 100 guest max. To be honest I don't even want that. Both of us are very simple and don't need/want and elaborate wedding, just something nice and tasteful.
