RE: the definition of riding.
I am the same I use my bike everywhere everyday, exept when I have to do the shopping, that is when the car is handy. i am the sort of person that if I don't ride my bike aleast once a day it would drive me insane. I ride my bike in the rain, hail, snow or shine. i could not resist riding a bike only on the weekends. That is just insane.

w/ my g/f using my truck, my bike has become my year 'round transportation and grocery getter, haha. this is my first year w/ it (april '07, bought it as my first bike) and since then i've racked 20k miles. i definately dont care to sit somewhere to get attention. if im parked at a 7-11 while grabbing a drink during a ride, and someone walks by and admires it.........cool, but im not out riding for the attention.
i absolutely consider myself a dedicated rider. i know i havent been "here" long, but i have a real passion for it. there's nothing better than waking up around 11 on a saturday, warming the bike up, gearing up and having no where particular to go. just leave the house and wherever i turn, i turn. having my bike as my daily commuter really puts me in tune w/ the bike. i feel i know every little quirk or hiccup w/ that thing. you learn much more about the bike the more you ride it and how it reacts.

RE: the definition of riding.
In September this year I celebrate 40 years of riding, I've had so many bikes during that time that I can never remember off hand how many (I think it's 19(ish!)). I've riden to work & play on all of them, including 9 years on a 170klm (105mls) daily commute. Riden in all types of weather from fu-fu-fu-freezing, to so hot I couldn't put my knees against the tank. I've been bitten (dogs) bumped (cars), been spat at, had various missiles thrown at me from trucks & cars, forced off the road & stung by Bees & contributed a great deal of money to the state in the way of fines. And so far (touch wood) only had two serious stacks (within 2 weeks of each other).
During those 40 years, I've seen the demise of the all conquering British motorcycle, the rise of the Japanese bike from blue smoke bellowing **** boxes to the now works of art, the dubious quality of Italian bikes to the dubious quality of Korean ones. And lost to many mates to the road that I care to remember, along the way.
I don't have to commute anymore, I get to choose when & where I ride, I still feel the same way when I put my bum on the seat & hit the starter as I did when I 1st started, the tingle up my spine, the same silly grin.
Bike riding isn't about the time you spend in the saddle, it's bigger than that, week day, week end, who cares, as long as you ride.

RE: the definition of riding.
I have always looked at it like there are 2 types of riders 1 the real one's and 2 the weekend warriors. we all know the weekend ones when we see um, so i was talking with a friend who drops " riding isn't just about riding its 50% the bike and 50% how you look on it!" what the f*$k is that?
There are two types of riders:
1) Those that ride because it is fun and it gets them where they need to go - transportation
2) Those that ride because it is fun and it gets them out of the house - entertainment
Nobody that doesn't like riding a bike rides a bike. That is the common bond we all have.

I do not ride all year round, butI do take the bike out in the winter when I can. When the weather is nice out I ride 5-7 days a week. I have a car and a truck so I'm not on the bike as much asI could be, but I'm on it alot. I ride becasue it set's me free and it's the most fun you can have dressed LOL!

Unless you've missed out on a good portion of what is posted on these threads, a great deal of them involve undertails, LEDs, graphics, power robbing slip ons, and nonsense like that. Appearance is very important to many people on this thread, but that doesn't make them any less capable of riding during the week.
