I am not bashing the 1k's if the new 1Krr were so damn ugly I would probably have bought one(not bashing power anyways, just style), but after buying my 600rr I couldnt imagine the power of the new 1krr's

And when I say track, I mean the drag strip. Kind of funny you get annoyed at someone you think is bashing a liter bike and turn around and bash the 600's lol.

Can we not get my thread locked please.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns a 1K bike - so getting some saddle time on one is difficult.
I would like a power upgrade from my 02600f4i. I'm not sure how much of a step up power wise a 08-09 600rr would be from my 02 f4i - can anyone speak to that?

Ah - a taste of my own medicine. But I already have one of those (see avatar) and I don't think I could handle 2.

Yeah, the drag strip would be a different story. I didn't realize I bashed the 600's. I just think the liter bikes are all around better street bikes, which is different than your take on it. I've had both and think they are both awesome machines. Again, I probably took it out on the wrong post. Nothing personal towards you at all. Must just be one of those days for me. so I apologize.

certainly not intending to do that. I thought I kept it pretty clean. if not ... I apologize to you too.

I would like a power upgrade from my 02600f4i. I'm not sure how much of a step up power wise a 08-09 600rr would be from my 02 f4i - can anyone speak to that?
I can't speak for the 08-09, but I've ridden f4i's and a few 03-06 range 600RR's. I would expect the 08-09 to be close to the 06 600RR as far as power. If thats case, there really isn't much difference. The f4i seems to have a little better lower end, more usable just cruising. the 600RR's I've ridden seem to take some rpms to get them moving good, but move well once their under way. seat of the pants feel says the 600RR's have more power, but again, not much. Of course, none of the bikes i rode had stock gearing either, so the actual difference I felt, may not be very accurate.

I would say if your looking for a mild upgrade in power and handling, get the 600RR. if your looking for more than that, you will probably have to go with a liter bike.

just for example. Most quarter mile times logged by sportrider for f4i's fall right around 10.7 seconds in the low 120mph range. Most times for 600RR's is 10.5 seconds in the high 120 mph range. most times for 1000RR's are high 9 sec in the mid 140 mph range.. with the newer 08 being a bit quicker around 9.7. You also have to keep in mind that most liter bikes throughout first gear are not at full throttle until just before shifting. If all of the power was able to be put down, the times would reflect an even larger gap. I know drag results are not very telling for a street bike, and track conditions certainly play a role, but not many other ways to compare.

having said this. the thing to keep in mind is liter bikes are making as much torque around 2500rpms as most 600's make max. This translates into a very easy to ride bike on the street, plus very enjoyable as you don't need hardly any gas at all to get moving. I know most people think of all of the power liter bikes make and wonder how it can possible be used. But its the low end power and drivability of the liter bikes that make them so nice on the street. Just because its there, doesn't mean you have to use it.

Its pretty clear which bike I think you should get. Only because you said you are looking for a performance upgrade. The f4i is a hard 600 class bike to beat for all around performance. and if its an upgrade you want, I think another 600 will disappoint in the long run.

Squid - I wasn't directly that just at you. Didn't like the hostile tone - I want different opinions from everyone so that's good!!

And thank you for the in depth response! I really need to try to get some seat time on a 1k bike.

I guess i'm torn here because I really hate the look of the newer 1000rr's (no offense anyone, just not my cup of tea) so it would be the 06 or 07 1000rr (I prefer the 07) or a 08 - 09 600rr. And from what i've read the 08+'s are quite a bit better than the 07's.

I'm a big fan of twisties and I enjoy the shifting and throttling the bike up, but I guess that doesn't really help me decide either way.... ugh.

Thats like laying a steak down in front of a dog, telling them not to touch it and leave the room lol....your not going to use the power all the time but you have to get on it every now and then...I rode my buddies gsxr 1k once and that thing had power right from the go. I am trying to get him to let me run it down the drag strip, he wouldn't this season but he said next season he would.

As far as quarter mile times go, its has to do with the rider. I goto the track about once a month with my buddies and I see guys with liter bikes not able to get under the 11 second mark all the time. I have never saw an F4i run under 11.2, and I have saw one guy on a 600rr run 10.6 once, but most were also around the 11 second mark. I dont see too many 1k rr at the track, its mostly gsxr 1k, hayabusa's galore, and a few ZX14r, and they all normally run low 9's.....Most the guys that run are their every week. My buddy use to run his kawi ZZ6r and ran 11.3 at 125mph, most the 9 sec bikes were running 140-150mph....

I agree with you nate, the 08+ 1k rr style has never grown on me, but the 06-07 were sweet bikes, I personally loved the yellow/blue they offered. I never rode a F4i, but would expect it to be about the same as my F4....and my 09 feels like it has quite a bit more power especially at the higher end. Personally I dont think you would be disappointed with either one, I wanted a new bike and the 1k rr didnt fit my style and that was the deciding factor for me, and I could have got an 08 1krr with 0 miles for less than I could have got my 09 600rr. And when I went back in their 2 weeks later they had rebates on the 09 1krr that and they were $7500.

I think we all need to remember that the majority of us are gearheads or speed freaks/geeks. SO we all like 'more power'. In my youth I'd prolly be right with all the 1k guys screaming a 1k makes a better street bike, but I'm older now n realize speed n more power isnt always were its at. The right amount power matched to what you're intended riding in where its at
