i was kicked out of a WW due to having my backpack on, they asked me to take it off and leave it at the front desk, there was also 5 of us , and we all said no way our stuff's in here, they then asked us to leave, with a security escort!!!!!! we felt great. never went back to that one, it was in the ghetto though, that may have had somthing to do with it.

Not siding with one point or the other, but back when i was working loss prevention for Kohl's the walmart guys were always torn up over backpacks....they DO have a lot of cameras, but almost all of them are "fixed" cameras----no way to move or zoom them---so many times they're pretty much useless.

Their biggest issue was people coming in with backpacks/purses and stealing a crapload of over-the-counter medication.

His worry is misplaced because if you were going to use a backpack to steal items, why wouldn't you just steal a backpack also?

Maybe the greeter was an ex-security guard in the Israeli consulate and he was worried about explosives?

That is total BS. I don't know how old you are or how old you look, but come on it's not like your a 14 year old kid. Did you have your helmet and jacket with you? I don't ride with a pack unless I'm going on a long trip, but I never thought about a store having a problem with it. I have taken my helmet in countless stores and have never had anyone ask me to leave it up front-I would not do so if asked.

Sounds like the old man was trying to be a hard ***. You did the right thing in my eyes.

I have been asked to leave my backpack at the counter at some stores, like Circuit City or some convienience stores, but in those types of stores you can generally see the front counter from anywhere in the store to see if they might be messing with your stuff. I'm sure if they did try to mess with it while you were away and had any way to prove it, the employee(s) involved would be in some pretty big trouble. I also agree with everyone else though about the women's purses being nearly as big as a small backpack and they aren't asked to leave them with the front desk. If people are going to steal something, they don't need a backpack to do it, and if they want to take a peek in my bag before I leave the store they would be more than welcome to.They spend all this money on the security systems at the store and then they are worried about riders with backpacks, it's not like I'm a high school student on my lunch break that's coming in tolift a few things from Wal Mart, I don't have anywhere else to put my stuff to preventit from getting stolen!

I have never had any problem with this. I do know of a couple of larger stealerships that have bag and helmet checks at the front door, but I think that is more for convenience than anything.

I am with most of the others. If they requested me to leave my stuff, then that would be the last visit I would make to that store.
Not that I would worry about the emplyees stealing my stuff, more of if the damaged it. What if they drop or stack crap on your valuables? Scratch your helmet, smash your glasses, etc....... I dont trust my stuff with people I do not know.

I would personally go back, and if you catch crap again. Demand to speak with a supervisor or a manager. Give him a peice of your mind. Ask him why its ok for some to carry bags (women w/purses) and not for others? I wouldnt wast anytime arguing with a security gaurd, they are just trying to do a job. It all starts at the top!

Pretty funny though, how you could get "harrased" by someone with a cane...lol......
Get back here you little whipper snapper!!!!!!!!

I take a backpack on every ride unless I'm just going to hit hte hill country twisties. Never know when you are going to need to carry something. I normally clip my helmet on the bike and put my gloves, mp3 player, etc in the bag. I have never had anyone tell me anything and I have been everywhere, BB, CC, WW. If they told me that I'd laugh in his face and walk in anyways.

I can understand suspicion about a teen with a backpack but not a grown man especially with motorcycle gear on. I would not leave personal belongings with store employess either. I'm sure a decent manager would understand and let you carry it in but if they didn't I would just not go to that store again. I know it wouldn't close the store down but it would hurt them a bit and when they keep up the same crap and run off other customers it will mess with there money. Women can carry huge purses but a motorcyclist can't carry a backpack WTF? I love my Wal-mart.

To be quite honest, my first response was "OMFG THERE'S REALLY A WALLY WORLD!!!!! I need to load up the family truckster." The Wally World in National Lampoon's Vacation was actually filmed in Six Flags Magic Mountain. The did some "high tech" editing (matte painting) to get the big entrance sign over the original.

I've taken my camera into Hershey Park without a problem. It and it's lenses are in a backpack.
