Default CBR600 F4i powered FSAE race car

I was on here over a year ago with some questions about the F4i and I promised to post our car's progress. Well, I finally got around to it. Check out our website at www.columbia.edu/cu/saefor photos and stuff. I also have another quick question...design has begun on our next car and we were going to get a 2001 F4i, is this enigne identical to the 2005 F4i (ie mounting points etc.) If not could someone please show me where I can find what years F4is are the same? Thanks a lot for the support!

Wow, that's a pretty crazy ride. What does that thing weigh in at?

Anyway, I believe that the '01 engine should be very close to the same as the '05. The frames are interchangeable so I don't see there being any changes. Good luck!

Any F4i made between 04 and 06 will have the same mounting points as the 05. i can't guarantee the 01-03 style

Well we finished the competition midpack, but then we took it to an autocross and won our class. Any more input on the engine mounts? Sorry to bug, I just want to be as informed as possible.

Mounting should be identical, the only strutural difference I am aware of is the sub frame of the seats.
I think the tuning and hp/torque ratios are slightly greater 01-03.

I hate to say it here, but you guys might want to use a gsxr600 engine like our team does. We took first last year and fourth this year with it. (Although the main reason they use it is because it's so cheap because people crash them so much)

Thanks for the input but we have a bunch of reasons to use the F4i.We used an F4i on this years car and had no problems with it. Thus we have a bunch of spare parts and even a spare engine, as long as the mounting points are the same. We spent a lot of time on the dyno tuning our engine and we have finally gotten it to produce some power, which should translate over to the new engine we are getting, which is very cheap. As far as the 600cc engines go in FSAE I really think that each has its own benefits and disadvantages and that there is not one true "best" engine in the class.
