The shop opened 2 hours ago, and still no call. I wonder if they even have my parts in yet. It doesn't really matter because it's nasty and raining outside. I just want to go down there and see what's going on with it, but I don't want to **** them off.

A chain doesn't need break in, just adjustments over time. If you have newly installed parts on any bike, looking them over only goes hand in hand with how well you do your pre-ride inspection.

Sounds like a good reason to invest in some stands and a Clymers manual.

I completely understand what your going through! I sent my bike out to have a the valves adjusted and a new CCT installed, that was 2 weeks ago yesterday! The bike was sent to New Jersey through a friend of mine, where he takes his drag bike to for carb work ect. they do really good work only problem is he only goes up there once a week, havent talked to him yet cause of the rain we have had but the last 4-5 days have been awesome and I have had to watch everyone else ride! It SUCKS!

I have the Clymer manual, but I do need to buy some stands. I was kinda chicken to work on the chain because I know how dangerous it can be to screw that up... especially after reading psychojester's thread about his popping off.

This is the biggest reason I learned to work on my own bikes 40yrs. ago. The price of the special tools, is probably less than any service bill. Now I have the tools for the next time or to work on someone elses. Rainy days can be maintenance days, sunny days are for riding.

I had the no riding dilemma for like a month, but as of 3 days ago it is over. But it was worth it with the way the bike looks now. Hang ing there

It's been over 2 weeks, and still no bike. In my mind, there is no conceivable way it should take this long to put on a new chain and fix my carbs. I'm starting to move from being sad to being angry. Would it be rude of me to call an get an update on the progress?

Not at all. I would call and ask if there was something they needed from me to get the bike back.
