can't ride: frustrated
I'm bummed out! Last Friday I took my bike to the dealer to get a new chain and my new Vortex sprockets installed. I didn't want to do it myself because I don't have stands, and I was kinda chicken about doing the chain since I've never done one before.
Anyway, what was a $100 chain job has turned into $425, and I still don't have my bike back! When I dropped it off, I mentioned that I have a gas smell after riding and asked them to take a look at it (I thought it was a leaky fuel valve). Turns out my carb T's were bad and need to be replaced. Of course they didn't have any in stock, and had to order.
Now it's sunny and warm outside, it's my day off, and I don't have a bike. At least when I get it bike, I'll have nicely synched carbs, valves that are in spec, new plugs, and a minty chain and sprockets, but this is killing me!
While I'm on this subject, is there any type of break-in for a new chain???

no break in...just ride it...i always keep an eye on the master link for a bit...just in case, even though it's been riveted on. the chain may stretch a bit in the beginning so watch the tension and adjust accordingly.
The dealership is closed on Mondays, so I still don't have my bike back. It was 82 and sunny today too! I'll probably get it back tomorrow, and there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms every day for the next 3 days. My last vacation day is Thursday... dammit!!!!!!
Think of the chain as a seriesof bearings and crankshafts. Just take it easy for the first 500 mi. and keep lubed with proper chain oil and it will be broke in.
Im sorry. I feel your pain. I cant ride either. I herniated L5 this weekend...thought I just pulled something, but the x-ray's today show its more serious. And I just bought a new bike 3 days ago. I got to sit in a chair like a cripple and peel stickers off of it this weekend while everyone was out riding.
yea i hate not riding, it seems like i break something everytime i go out, first i was missing a clutch lever bolt, now i come down off a 12 fall over and break the brake lever[sm=bangbang.gif]
