Ever call anyone who was in the marines an "ex-marine"? If you do make sure your on your bike with it running and in gear for a quick get away. Entry into any of the academies requires a minium service contract. If you graduate you serve. I believe in some cases if you don't graduate then your required to serve as an enlisted. I'm not sure on that one. I went straight enlisted, and didn't even consider trying to go officer.

The military has waivers for everything, and as far as I know the Army is a bit more liberal with their accepting new recruits. Another important thing to note is that he will still be able to get a college degree while active duty. Have him contact a recruiter and get more details.
