Help!

I know enough about cameras to be dangerous. We own a Canon EOS digital SLR. I have been shopping for a good zoom lens so I could capture outdoor activities and my son's indoor wrestling matches.

After many phone calls to various companies I was going to go with a Canon 70-200 f 2.8...untill I saw the price! I bailed on that quickly since I am not a pro.I went with theCanon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 EF IS USM.It arrived yesterday. So far so good.

I am seeking advice. What are the do's and don'ts with this setup...especially with the indoor photography. Keep in mind that most wrestling matches are in dimly lit gyms. Also, and recommendations on a good all around exterior flash?

Thanks in advance!

Perfect! Your the man. It should be here Saturday ( I figured what the hell...I can splurge for the express shipping)

This is the company I ordered from.I saw that lens while researching and told others about it. I think the thought I was full of crap.

Holy Cripes!

Ok, Big Pops, I'm still a novice, but this blog (http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/) more than likely has the information that will cover what you want.

This book is supposed to be the best book to get on exposures:
Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0817463003

I myself bought the Canon Rebel XTi

I picked up the following lenses:
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007Y794O

Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

I shoot Canon also. If you want indoor glass, you had the right choice in the 70-200L 2.8...but like you said, the wallet just is a bit thin for this one. I have the 17-40L, 50 1.8, and Tamorn 28-75 2.8. Unfortunately the 70-300, even with IS, is still gonna be a bit slow for your indoor shooting. The Canon 430ex is probably the best entry level flash that gives great results. You'll need a good flash. Trust me!
Give your local Craigslist a try for some equipment. B&H is very reputable. If you dig around a bit you can find purchase codes to get the discount from their show fliers. Here's a link to the BEST CANON FORUM online.http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php. Anything related to Canon and dc's you will find there.
Good Luck!

What the hell... that's a lot of cash for a slow *** lens F 5.6

If it cost as much as a house, I'd want it to be like a F .000000000001 I'd wanna be able to take pictures on the dark side of the moon.
