RE: Caliper help now
ugh...you know what...it looks like you had the brake bracket in the wrong place...it's the thing that slides onto the swingarm and locates the rear caliper....as a result, the bolt you were tightening was putting pressure on the plate because it was in the wrong place and thus causing the grinding...now that you snapped the bolt, it looks like you'll need a new one...plus i would suggest taking off the wheel and figuring out how the brake bracket is misaligned...but for now...don't go riding without that bolt...

Ouch, man, that sucks something fierce! Must have ground down and weakened it some in the beginning.
+1 to FFingers advice. I knew it sounded like something was misaligned. Bad news is, this nixes your riding for a bit. Good news is that the bolt isn't going to be that pricey.

RE: Caliper help now
yeah i looked at it again in the service manual and compared with the online fiche....the bolt you broke screws into the brake bracket...
the caliper (brake) bracket slides onto a groove on the swingarm and the axle goes through it (i believe)....this gives you a stable locating point for the caliper as you can see this is really it's only mounting point....what probably happened is that you didn't have the caliper seated all the way down onto the bracket when you started tightening the bolt, it wasn't lined up with the hole for it...so as you tightened, you pushed the brake bracket against the rotor....the bracket is sort of loose on the bike until it is completely screwed to the caliper....that bolt is only supposed to be torqued to 17 ft/lbs which isn't that much....i would also check to make sure that by tightening you didn't dent or scratch up your rear rotor in the process....
if you have any other questions, let me know...
