Default RE: Buying my First Gun

ORIGINAL: vpsophmore

I live with my girlfriend and our dog.

Me too!

Though, fortunately, none of our neighbors smoke crack. Sorry you have to deal with that crap.

I agree with the 'rent first' idea. If you thought your bike was a near and dear companion, a firearm can be much closer, psychologically. At least it was for being in the military. But you won't achieve that bond, or the feeling of safety you desire, if you buy a gun just to buy it, then leave it in the drawer.

You mentioned your friend...all gung ho and 'expert' and everything. This may not be of much help, but if your psychology is like some, you'll feel totally different, at first, going to the range when he's there, and when he's not there. I mean I'm sure he's an invaluable help, but IDK, I'm just saying, try to balance the experience by being on your own, too. Well, with an instructor, I mean.

Perhaps HC could chime in. He's fired a few rounds in his time...
