Bike Falls If Parked on Pavement in Summer???
when I did the Freddie Spencer school last summer at Miller Motorsports Park (Utah), we parked our bikes (15 or so06600RRs) on pit lane while we went to get some water and talk about the session. We were the first Spencer school at Miller so nobody really thought anything about it, but that section of pit lane was brand new blacktop. After about 5 minutes, we all heard loud crunching sounds, one after another so we looked back towards the bikes and they were falling on their sides one by one! It was a pretty hot day and the pavement was brand spankin new so our kickstands all sunk right into the ground and bikes started hitting the ground. My clutch lever was bent, not bad but noticeable. It was just nuts.
I had to repaint the right side of my bike because this happened to me, and my bike was on its center stand at the time. I've moved it to concrete and I'm keeping it there.
it doesn't have to be new pavement for it to happen. Me and my wife were at Wal-Mart back in the summer and came back out and hers had sunk into the pavement, just luckily hadn't fallen over yet and mine was parked right next to her! That could have been a double whammy!
This happened to me right after I first bought my bike. I was at a friends house and parked my bike on the street curb. The pavement wasn't even new, but after about 10 minutes in the 90+ degree heat I heard this big thump/crack. I got one of those stomach drops and knew what it sounded like. Came out to find my bike on its left side. Broke off the B weight at the end of the bars, bent the left clutch handle way out, cracked the turn signal fairing, scuffed up the tail faring at the seat curve, and really tore up the decals. Cost about $150 to get it all the parts and eveything fixed. (Covered up thetail scuffswith stickers).
Now I use 4 inch galvonized steel electrical box covers.

You can get them at any hardware section for about .50cents. They are super cheap and will never bend or move in the heat. If you leave one behind while out riding O-well, easy replacement. They also fit very easliy in the back of your bike or jeans pocket. I suggest these to everyone that I know.
