Default Packing While Riding

I was at the gas station today when beside a guy pulls up on a nice looking ZX 1000. I noticed along with all his riding gear, he had a Glock shoved in waistband of his right hip.
Am I being overly cautious in my thinking that is a really bad idea from a safety perspective?

It's not something I would consider to be a smart thing to do.

If you're going to carry a gun while riding, mount a holster to the bike, so it can be easily accessed on the move.

Re-watch films like Mad Max etc for ideas

Love the Mad Max movies so that is an awesome idea.
Forget that it's a gun. Having something to potentially land on in the event of an accident. I can't imagine having the butt of a gun jamming into my kidneys.

When I first saw the title of post I had visions of a guy hastily shoving clothes into his suitcase as he's riding along, if that was in London he'd have a swarm of feral scooter kids throwing acid at him and nicking his gun, these days I go out in my tank

Well that kind of packing might be equally dangerous.

When I went to buy my cruiser gear I noticed the jackets and vests all came with built-in holsters. Different strokes...

Not all strokes are the right strokes, pretty heavy stuff riding around with a piece stuffed down your Y Fronts.

Personally I don't see the utility in carrying a firearm while riding a motorcycle. Would be really tough to get your deer that way!

Between my riding skills and the other hazards on the roads, I figure there's enough ways for me to kill myself already, without having to throw weapons into the equation

I carry daily, even if I'm on a bike. It's entirely inaccessible while I ride because I carry in the 6 o'clock position which gets "sealed" away when I zip my jacket to my pants. I've considered the additional risks of going down while carrying but I've determined that the risk of not carrying in the areas I have to frequent are higher. I certainly don't recommend carrying the way that dude was. Broadcasting that you have a weapon by carrying it exposed makes you target number one if the **** hits the fan.
