Anyone live on/near the beach?
i live in central-ish florida, i spend a lot of time riding to the beach and cruising around. its just so nice to be riding along the shore and seeing the sights. id have to say i love it here
I was born and raised in Texas and the beach was about 8 hours away. Now I live in Virginia and the beach is about 2 hours which is a short drive compared to driving anywhere back home. Lets just say for riding I would rather live in Texas.....The beach is nice to visit but not live that close. See what just happened to Japan?!?! No thanks!! Again all IMPO!
I grew up on Long Island, 10 minutes from Smith Point Beach, I loved it. Miss it a lot. Then I moved to NC, near Wilmington. About 30 minutes from the beach. Then the military, stationed in Norfolk, lived in Va Beach. Loved it there too, but summers were rough with the tourism. Now I am in the mountains in PA, and really miss being so close to the beach.
If I move back to the beach area, it would probably be the Va Beach area again though. Even with all the tourists and military guys, I still love Va Beach.

Lived right in the guts of one of the biggest tourist beach resorts in Victoria Aus for more than 14 years ..... was great for a while..... , but now ,we have moved back to the country , 35 acres of bloody peace!! , wide open roads , no bloody tourists !!! , just space and peace and , no tsunamis
The grass might be greener for a while?? , but soon enough, the grass you leave might seem greener as well ????
BTW - Drugs and bad **** peeps are everywhere!! .... do not think for one minute that you will escape that chit ....its bloody everywhere !!!!
A change is fine short term , as long as you understand that you may want to only make that move for a few years or so as a nice change , then move back to where you are perhaps ?
Go where you want to be today for sure !!! ..... and then go where you want at a later date man .....
( I refer to the grass is greener thing ..LOL)
....... its just a case of where you want to be at any particular time in YOUR life!!....... so go for it !!!!!!!!!
Exactly !!!!

i live right next to the beach in ft. myers, fl. i love it. but it is different. i've lived in NW indiana as well, and central ill., as well as tallahassee, fl.
its a very seasonal area, and you have to get used to it. right now, its our season. we do about 8x the business right now than we do in our slowest times of the year, so its a lot of fluctuation. and it just changes the way you do things. i don't go to the beach this time of year near as much as i do other times. it takes a few hrs. to get there this time of year as opposed to in a few weeks, it'll only take 15 min... the roads are incredibly crowded right now, and i don't ride as much. i dread having to do errands right now just for the simple fact that everything takes that much longer to do in our season. the tourists are generally really nice... i mean, think about it, they are on vacation after all. so even when it is really crowded, nothing tends to get out of hand that often.
and i love it... i wouldn't trade it for anywhere (or at least anywhere that i know of...). in the off season, its our little beach town again. everyone down here is a lot nicer (as opposed to the other places that i've lived). everyone says hi, asks you how you're doing, they will stop and help you if you ever need anything. the weather is perfect. even when it gets too hot... it's only too hot for a few hours during the day, at night time its perfect, so no matter what time of year it is, there's always nice temperatures with a great ocean breeze. people seem to just not get as worked up about things down here like they do elsewhere, i dont know exactly how to explain it.
plus... did i mention that i can ride year around????
but, be warned.... after a year or 2 down here, forget going back up north during the winter months. i thought i still had it in me.... until i got out of the car in tennesee in november to get gas and thought i had frostbite (not really, but you get the idea, i was pretty damn cold) by the time i walked around the car to the actual gas pump.
as far as riding goes, you'll have to wax your chain a whole lot more due to the sand. the roads are pretty straight. but there's a ton of fellow bikers. and you'll sweat...

I lived in San Diego for almost 28 years and it's a great place to live. The weather is perfect, the tourism you get used to and the cost of living there sucks. I moved to Kansas for allot of reasons. If money were no object I'd move back. Can't go surfing in Kansas. Life here is better, I can have more things, just wish the weather was better for riding the bike.
Small world hey, my uncle's holiday house was in James street in Rye not far past the Rye boat ramp. My wife spent most of her childhood right up through high school in Rosebud. Now we're in country Qld west of Brisbane. Anyway, I'm off now to go riding through Mt Glorious with a mate and his spankin' Aprilia RS125. I'm hanging to have a ride of it.
