Anyone here a dentist?

Anyone here a dentist?
I got a tooth that is freakin killing me.
Friday night, I was driving to Indianapolis and my truck's PMD took a poo... right in a tool booth. I had a spare with me. I jumped out and between the stress of blocking a lane with people behind me and the cold I was chomping my teeth down pretty hard. I woke up Saturday with a bad tooth ache.
The tooth that hurts is the second from the middle on the left side, so like the one right next to someone who has two 'buck teeth'. This tooth had a root canal about 15 years ago, as well the the front tooth next to it.
The only way I can get rid of the pain is taking about 2400 mg of Motrin, and then I'm only good for about 4-5 hours. Ihave been taking ridiculous amounts of Motrin for over 10 years, not sure how I still have a stomach. Its the only thing that helps my back pain, and I've built a tolerance to it.
I bought Oragel and all that does is make everything around it numb, but the tooth still throbs. The pain is definately in the root somewhere. It's not loose, neither hot nor cold affect it. There is no swelling, bleeding, receding on anything going on. Nothing seems stuck in there, I've flossed to make sure. Also the tooth is not touching another tooth, placing pressure on it.I think the key to this is that its been root canaled, so it shouldnt be a cavity, since I wouldnt feel it anyway... I dunno.
Any opinions?
If this doesnt stop soon enough I'll see if I can find a decently priced dentist around here. I dont have dental insurance and I'm way out of town.

I am no dentist either, just had my fair share done. I would agree with fish though. The only other thing i can think of, is you possibly had a small infection or pocket where the root was and now you somehow burst/popped it, thus you could basically have dry socket now, it sounds like your in that kind of pain.

S-O-B, I really hate reading about dental work. It all makes me cringe. Why does it have to be like that? I would rather have to go to the doctor.

no dentist but i do know after the last time i went i will be scared for now on. after braces and the thing i had done at dentist last time. my front 4 or 5 teeth on the top had calciumfied from my braces so it was very white and soft. i got cavaties all the time so he grinded aways the front of those teeth for about a hour then remolded them with epoxy i think it was. they look great and the color is spot on with other teeth but it took 6 shoots of novacane with none of the topical becuase it would go in the 1 cavaty and hurt like hell. having your mouth open for a hour an a half is horible.

Prior to a root canal you have to take antibiotics, like amoxicilin if you are not alergic to it, 500mg. every 6-8 hours for five days, and take a pain relif like Ketorolac 10 mg. every 6 hours.
That will take away the pain by reducing thesize of the infection and the acumulation of gases that the puss is causing, (to much gas, more pain).
Then do the root canal, if you don't take the medication prior to the root canal treatment it will hurt like you haven't felt pain before. [sm=trust_me.gif]im, a dentist.
