Check this website out. It'll make you think twice about not wearing your gear.

that guy is lucky to be alive , and yea he shouldve been wearing his gear but i think the bigger issue is dont be going over 100 mph and driving wrecklessly. if he had been going 65 (or whatever their legal freeway speedlimit is) even is shorts and a t-shirt he wouldve been fine. and someone please point out to me why he wrecked . i noticed he said it was a blur to him and he knows he was going a high rate of speed , but seems to be all his fault. i doubt anyone including myself will devaule the importance of gear . is it a good idea to wear it when you ride yes, can you ride and still be equally fine without it, yes.

Yeah... I always wear my jacket, gloves, and helmet wherever I go. It gets so hot here in Floridathatit's tempting not towear them but I just remember my crash and this dude and putthem on. I guess it's more a subject of common sense but I still feel more comfortable and confident riding full gear.

Can you be equally fine- yes. Are you just as likely to be equally fine - no. Every decision you make about riding will either increase or decrease the likelihood of getting hurt. Riding at a reasonable speed for traffic and road conditions, and developing and practicing emergency skills will tilt the odds in your favor, but there's never a guarantee that something bad won't happen. That's where the gear comes into play.
