Weapons are something that are looked upon in my line of work as tools of the trade I personally am a firm believer in the second amendment as an individual's right and have great respect for firearms and enjoy and admire a well built piece of hardware about the same way. Some individuals would admire and respect a well-built aircraft. Yes. Ohio University, that was directed at you. I understand the logic behind wanting to give this guy a break, but we as a nation can not afford to if he's let off the hookand the full weight of the laws not brought down upon him. Those limp wrist, liberals some of them just coming back into power from standing on the sidelines will once again be pushing for that same old doctrine of change, so no matter how unfortunate. The situation is, he should be prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law we as a nation have volumes of Law already on the books in every state to deal with firearms violations. We just need to start enforcing them to the fullest extent and weed out those with less than good common sense

Have always taken my boys when I go shooting the same way I was taken when I was a kid. Of course when they were smaller they used age appropriate weapons ... .22 with extreme supervision. But I wanted them to be around as I shot the AR or the .40 ... just takes the curiosity out of the equation when the weapons are locked at home. At 6 they each knew that shooting was something serious and dads weapons made a helluva noise and blew things to bits. And I did allow my 7 year old (at the time) fire the AR, however, I was in control of the weapon the entire time. Let him have enough control to acquire the target and squeeze the trigger.
Handing an 8 year old an uzi is just irresponsible. As sad as I feel for him charges have to be filed. If a jury sees fit not to convict so be it but we exist as a society because of laws. They gotta be upheld.

wow, thats sad. I fired my dads handguns when I was about 8, the biggest I fired then was a .45....but a sub machine gun at 8, thats crazy....I dont think the dad should be charged(it was an accident, and a stupid one) the firing range maybe...b/c if its 12+ a 8 y/o should not be allow to be in the line....thus preventing the accident
we have a retarded government system, rapists get no time, killers constantly get off the hook, and good people that make a mistake serve life sentences....
and I agree with peacemaker
"I can bet London to a brick that this poor bastards life is now going to be one on recrimination, grief & regret. This unfortunate accident has most certainly taken two lives. "
that has to be hard to live with....I couldnt imagine it....and if you dont have kids then you wouldnt know

I have difficulty believing it was an actual UZI...those are fairly large and heavy...I would tend to believe more it to be a MAC10 or MAC11. despite what it was called,....

I carried an Uzi for a number of years as my weapon of choice in close combat bush war situations.
It's not a weapon I would even consider allowing an 8 year old to fire AT ALL - the recoill will cause finger to lock on the trigger and he won't handle the weapon - an 8 year old is just not ready for it.
I've seen grown men struggle to control it........
The father is suffering beyond belief right now - it'll probably cost him his marriage too.
I'd give him a couple of years probation, but no jail time, and I'd revoke all his weapons permits.
Make him spend time helping the community in some way, but make the punishment fit the crime - I'm a firm believer in it.
(I make graffiti artists scrub all the graffiti off public buildings within a mile of where they were 'painting" ) and pay for any chemicals they may need to do it. They generally don't offend again.
I'm by no means comparing the two incidents, just citing an example of punishment fitting the crime.
It's a terrible accident, and the range should also be charged with being an accessory to involuntary manslaughter, or somesuch. I'm not up on all your legal framework.

There is responibilty that comes with owning a weapon. and Laws that have to be enforced...

if and I mean if the guy possesses a class 3 tag....I would hope they have at least enough sense to revoke it. I have been around guns all my life and have even constructed them. and it never ceases to amaze me the absolute stupidity people demonstrate.
two pieces i fabricated...the gatling from scratch and the M1919C5A1 from a demilled isreali parts set and an array of bits and pieces I found to make the canadian C5A1 version.
