Is a 600 a good starter bike?
 

One thing I've noticed with the 600 for a beginner debate, older riders tend to say start small more often than younger riders. I'm hoping to see if there is any correlation to experience.

NO, and i have 2+ years of experience.
No only to high powered sport bikes of 600cc. I think that because for the non-experienced rider, the power is there, and so is the curiosity, but the ability and skill level isnt. I want to get my girlfriend into riding street bikes and i think im going to stick her on a new 08 ninja 250r. Sick lookin bikes and enough power for starters.

to me, it really depends on the rider/person and how mature they are, regardless if they are a new rider or not. if they are getting a bigger bike to "fit in" then no. iride a '04 600RR and it was my first bike with no experience. if you have people that can and will teach you the right things and you do it all at your own pace, then you will be fine. in my opinion, a smaller bike can bite you in the ass just as bad as a bigger bike if you do not respect them...a smaller bike just does not have AS MUCH power as a bigger bike.

(and yes I see it all the time... and the 250 is awesome and sold it in many many places - I'm planning on getting one for who ever the next girl is ;))

The problem with that arguement is that a noob doesn't know enough to know what to respect and what not to, not to mention how to get out of trouble once the power gets you into it. Power is one thing, but a 600 has a sneaky powerband that can bite you when you don't expect it whereas a 1000 just scares you from the get go and DEMANDS respect from any RPM. That is really the main problem with a 600 for a noob, until6000 they areas docile as a kitten, above that and they can f**k you up.

cars are slightly different, I woulda started in a 400hp camero but i wouldnt start my kids in one lol.

fish, i agree with you, but what i'm saying is that someone mature enough would know they need to take iteasy being as they are new to something. they would learn the bike and about it instead of just start ripping into it...this is what i can honestly say for myself when i started out on mine at least. i have over 4 years of riding experience now on the same bike and i know what i will or can do when i do this or that to it. maturity, to me, is a huge factor when it comes to doinganything i guess.
