2008 Yamaha R6
Well guys Yamaha released its information on the 2008 r6 today, and after watching the video withChuck GravesI have to say that I am impressed, I wasn't expecting a lot of changes but they sure improved on it, on the downside it did put on 9 more lbs weighing in at 366lbs dry weight.I fell in love with the silver on in the gallery once I saw it.
NEW FOR 2008:
• Compact, lightweight 67 x 42.5mm 599cc DOHC 16-valve
liquid-cooled titanium-valved four-cylinder receives a bump
in compression ratio, from 12.8:1 to 13.1:1, for even greater
response. New, domed pistons with valve cutouts produce a more
compact combustion chamber.
• Over 50 friction-reducing strategies have been employed inside
the engine, including the use of wider crank bearings.
• Upgraded fuel injection mapping for the YCC-T dual-injector
system complements the higher compression ratio for great
throttle response and reduced engine braking.
• A magnesium subframe removes weight from the rear of the
motorcycle for increased mass centralization.
• All-new frame takes handling to the next level, allowing more
precise turn-in, greater corner speed, and tighter exits. Thicker
headpipe-headstock and swingarm-pivot area walls, and elimination
of the frame crossmember, help achieve perfect balance.
• New swingarm has internal ribs added, and extruded section is
now forged to work with the new frame.
• Revised outer fork tubes, a new lower triple clamp, and increased
fork offset provide highly tactile front-end feedback.
• Moving the rider and bars forward and slightly lower enhances
braking and turn-in performance. Clip-ons are also lower and
re-angled.
• Front discs are 310 x 5mm instead of 4.5mm for increased
cooling qualities.
• Increased fork height adjustability and rear ride-height adjustment
range accommodate a greater range of riders and tires.
• Revised bodywork results in even greater aerodynamic efficiency.

I am absolutely torn as of now. I am selling the my ninja this year and was looking to pick up a brand new 600rr however after seeing this I am not sure. I will have to check it out at the dealerships and sit on it before I make a decision. Tough Tough choice although I still feel that I'm leaning to the cbr. Either way I'm sure neither will dissapoint.

Hot has a new definition. I'd rank that as equal to the current 6rr. I would rank it as superior in design to the 1krr, however.

RE: 2008 Yamaha R6
It looks to me like they are putting the chip controlled throttle and air intake to work. The 13.1:1 compression ratio is amazing. I bet that engine will be insanely powerful. It looks like they are not trying to make a more street-oriented bike to compete with the Honda, but in fact are getting even racier, with even more track oriented ergos, but they are taking a cue from Honda's mass centralization to improve steering on the track by pushing the rider forward.
But ohmygod. The engine. I can't wait to see the dyno reports in the shootouts. I bet it is a real screamer.
And yeah, it's a gawdawful gorgeous bike. I'm depressed it is not coming out in red this year. The candy red is the sexiest color. Thank goodness we can still get the R1 in the red. Too bad I am not up to by my literbike for another 3 years or so.
