2 Up Suspension

Since the bike is about to be on the road again, and I have someone wanting some rides :icon_wink:, I was curious if everyone else adjusts their rear suspension for 2 up riding?

I weight only 130 lbs so mine is pretty damn loose, and I am afraid with a passenger (she is probably 120? just a guess), that it would be too loose and hit, not sure where to set it.

Lastly, if I tighten it up enough where its a good set for a passenger, will that throw my riding off solo with the tightened suspension? \

Thanks!

I asked the same question a few months back. I'm around 200 lbs and have the rear preload on 5 I think. When carrying a passenger I'll put it on 6 or even 7 (max).

If you leave it set for passenger weight you might feel that your turn in is quicker (rear is higher) but that it's too stiff when riding solo (there will also be less travel I think).

If you have it on.. let's say 3 now. Just put it on 4 for daily rides if you carry a passenger often for short trips. For longer trips put it on 5 and change it back when riding solo.
Or just leave it on what you have it now and only change it when riding with a passenger. It only takes a few seconds to adjust so it's easy to do whilst your passenger is gearing up.

i always set it to what i want then leave it no matter what. 90% of my riding is solo, so i just deal with the other 10 and compensate my riding.

Its just a matter of I am so light that mine is so lose another passenger would cause it to bottom out, for lack of a better term, and that cant be good.

How do you adjust it so easily because I recall it being a pain to do, maybe newer bikes are easier? I ride a 96 f3

my suspension is set up softer on my f3, for street riding. I did ride with two up atleast once a week. Just be set in your lines and very smoothe with your line changes and you should be fine.

I ride a '99 F4 so I don't think it's that different but I'm not sure. All you need is the special tool (that comes in your toolkit, it looks like a hook) and 30 seconds of your time.. I had it set too soft (2 or 3) before and then changed it up to 4 or 5 now and my turn in became much smoother without it getting to stiff on me (that's what she said). :)
