Default What's the bike stand called..

Hi All,

What is the official name for the stand that you put your bike on when you want to work on it. You know the one that gently lifts the front/rear end of the bike, keeps it level, and more importantly keeps it from tipping over?

Also, where is it the best place (cheapest) to by those?

Thanks!

I believe they are called... Bikestands.

There are multiple makes, I don't have one so can't speak from experience but i'm sure others here have. You might want to post up in the general section to get some more answers.

aka Paddock stands , or Swingarm stand for the rear (spool or paddle, depending on if you have spool mounts on your swingarm, if not, paddles work for about anything). Fronts stands can lift from the bottom of the fork = fork stand. Front stands can also lift from the bottom of the lower triple - those are usually called yoke or triple tree stands.

Fork stands allow wheel/brake removal and servicing, yoke stands allow all that plus fork leg removal.

or you could just get some straps and lift the thing from any sturdy suspended object.

I welded myself a swingarm stand, but lots of people are happy with the inexpensive ones from Harbor freight.

I bought my front yoke stand for about $100 shipped - it was a Bike Tek brand - i'm happy with the quality for the price - http://www.flyncycle.com/Sport_Bike_Stands_s/830.htm

Oh - and if you get a triple/yoke stand, you'll need the 24mm adapter most places sell for theirs.

Lol... Yep, I'd say he pretty much summed it all up. I don't even know what else to say.

Except, the cheapo stands on ebay are not created equal. I got lucky on a set for like $76 shipped and they turned out to be great stands. (really stable even with heavy bikes)
I also have a set of T-rex stands. I got those used on ebay for $75 shipped for the set. Barely used.

The ones mentioned so far:

FRONT:
- fork stand
- triple stand

REAR:
- Paddle
- Spool

But the real sexy one goes into the centre frame mount -- picks the bike up by the frame and you can strip the swing arm and triples. More useful for maintence than at the track... can't think of the name either.

Also, are these stands (both rear and front) Year/Maker/Model specific, or are they one size fits all?
