Default Well, this is awkward...

New member, and new crash!

First day with my new 2012 CBR1000RR (literally 0 miles when I drove it off the lot this afternoon), taking a slow turn at about 40, when out of nowhere the guy in front of me slams on his breaks (someone cut him off). I twitch my front brake and the front tire locks up, I low side the bike into the rear of his car!

I blame new slick tires, a slick road, and most importantly, myself...

Damage report:
Rear swing arm, left fairing, crankcase cover, and now its leaking oil from somewhere I can't see...

What do you think guys, will my insurance total it? I've crashed a bike or two in my day, so I know what these parts cost..

Man sorry to hear about that. Glad you're ok. Good news (or bad news, depending on your POV) rhey won't total it.

Most carriers when talking motorcycles have a repair limit of 75%-80% of the bike's value. Being brand new, even a leftover 2012, it has extremely high value. They'll repair it. I lowsided my 2011 BMW s1000rr in 2012, 3 months after getting it. Cracked the frame and other miscellaneous damage causing a near $8000 repair bill. But Rider Insurance said the bike's value was $15k so there was no way in Hell they were going total it

Oh man that is bad luck! And glad to hear that YOU are ok.

As Kuroshio says, insurance should cover the repairs.

better luck next ride

Cheers, SB

Yeah I'm OK, I always wear gear, so woot no biggie sliding on the pavement for a few yards.

Hey can anyone tell me what this thing is?

https://www.copy.com/s/gUwyXvRFkQdtL...2001.20.25.jpg

Its leaking when I run my engine now.. It appears to be a sensor of sorts, whats strange is the crash occurred on the other side, and I can't see how this side could be stressed as that thing is just connected with a electric wire...

Well whatever it is let the insurance sort it out as part of the claim.
Don't do ANYTHING before the assessors have looked at it - that's why you have insurance. Let them worry about what it is and what it does.
It's not unusual to have things "move" even on the opposing side to the primary damage - bikes are so structurally integrated it could have been bumped by something else and is now leaking.................

Good news is that if you have the bike repaired at an authorized repair center, even the dealer will treat it like it never happened. I got full trade in value for Yolie despite having her skeleton replaced

Bummer.
+1. Let the dealer fix it and the insurance company pay for it.

man, to total a bike that new would have to have some extensive damage... i'm sure insurance will fix it and not total it.

that sucks that it happened, but you're okay, and that's the important part

welcome to the forum btw
