RE: sport bike fan
I'm assuming from your handle that you're in Brooklyn. Probably the easiest place to take the MSF course in NYC is Motorcycle Safety School in the South Bronx. They're right over the Willis Avenue Bridge, and also reachable by subway. I had already been riding on my permit more than I should have when I took their class, and I definitely got a lot out of it.
Most people will say that the RR is not a good starter bike. It's unforgiving if you're not real smooth. You will become a better rider faster, and live to tell about it, if you start out on a 250 or 500, or maybe a 650 v-twin like the Suzuki SV650. Even an older 600, like an F3, is a better choice, if only because it's much cheaper so you won't feel as bad when you smack it up.
Whatever you do, take the class, buy and wear protective gear, and don't get caught in a situation where you're trying to keep up with riders who are faster/stupider than you. Ride your own ride!
