Seeking enlightenment from eastern idaho
Good morning rocket riders ,2 wheel lovers , and those who know why a dog always wants his head out the window of your truck on the highway!!!
Yesterday I horse traded for an 89' cbr 600 f.
She's had a rough go from the looks of drops and hack jobs and general wear and tear.
I'm a mechanic by trade specializing in electrical.I operate a small alternator and starter rebuilding shop. I'm looking forward to learning more about this scoot from those in the know here, and contribute when I can. I'll post pics as soon as I figure out how on this forum's format

Thanks guys , she's got a nasty stumble at 5500 then picks herself up solid to 11000
I was very surprised to feel a solid punch from such a small power plant
I think the stumble is carb sinc ? Needs brakes and can't get 5th or 6th Gera at all but I'm stoked about having a sport bike again
Last one was a zx600a fun bike
Other bikes in the stable are 13' FLTRX and acouple of cm250's put'n one together for the wife

Hey Lund. Looks like you've got a good base there. These bikes are well worth the effort of getting them up to par. Your stumble is likely a carb sync issue. Might be worth cleaning them out and resyncing them. As I alluded to in my other post about your missing 5th and 6th, you might be in for a bit of trouble there... The gear dogs are known to wear on these. After 20+ years of thrashing, coupled with a detent arm spring that wasn't quite strong enough to hold the gears in place, some bikes exhibit a jump into neutral. Typically it's during the 1st to 2nd gear upshift.
I'd put the rear and on stands, and with the bike off, try cycling through all 6 gears. You will have to move the rear wheel to allow the gears to mesh.

Welcome to CBRF! I usually yank the carbs off of every bike I buy and clean them so that I know what I'm dealing with when I start to tune them. However, when I owned an F3 (really similar bike), there were many times that just getting a vacuum line pinched while putting on the gas tank would cause those sort of issues.
Your bike doesn't look too rough. Why can't you get it into 5&6? Physically can't shift it? Or the motor isn't strong enough to get you there?
