Default New as well, with question

I've been looking around to try to figure some things out but i find this easier. I just took the MSF's basic riders course, passed and got my license. I'm really interested in looking into a 600cc bike. I feel I'm pretty level-headed, not looking to stunt or crazy stuff like that, just to get around town and maybe trips with friends. Of course this will be my first bike, but i got the basics down in the MSF course

So here's my question:
Whats a good bike to start out on?

Welcome!
A Honda would be a great bike to start on.
Now, which one?
Well, which do you like? What's available? What can you afford, with gear, repairs/maintenance, and insurance? How much wrenching are you capable of doing?

i've heard good things about the CBR 600F4i1, im in san diego so the selections there, im looking to pay under 6k for a bike itself. As for maintenance i know nothing on how to do it myself, i can of course ask my co-workers a lot of them have a lot of experience.

If you can find an F4i, get one. They're great bikes, very comfortable, look great, fast, and handle well. It would be a great first bike, and you may never grow out of it. Stick around here and learn how to work on it yourself.....

Good luck finding one...
Look over some threads on what to look for when looking at used bikes.

Gimme a shout when you get your bike. I'm just up the freeway a bit.

Welcome aboard Triscuit!

74demon is steering you right. An F4i for a level-headed beginning rider would be acceptable. Once you get it, take it easy & learn the characteristics of the bike & how it handles. Learn the power-curve. You'll do fine.

Oh, & don't go rushin' up to Pally b/c your friends want you to go!

Good luck finding what you want.

RRs have a more aggressive riding position, are built and tuned for "racing", and are a tad lighter.
The F4i is built for "touring". You sit upright a little more and are comfortable. Many people do track them with no problem.

^ Other that both models being fuel-injected, they are totally dif bikes.

*F4i = '01-06 ('01-03 = split-seat, '04-06 = banana seat). Good all around bike for daily riding, commuting, sport-touring, & track.

*RR came out in '03...has more aggressive seating position & less forgiving handling characteristics vs the F4i.

If I were going to recommend one as a starter-bike, it would def be the F4i.
