New in TN, VIN questions

I don't know much, less about Hondas. Except that I've always wanted a CBR. Well, I sort of got one.
I just picked up a project 600. I'm not sure any more about it . They haven't found the title, will probably have to file for a duplicate.
The kid had stripped it down and painted the frame. In the proccess, he removed the VIN plate, and lost it. Is there an alternative location to find the VIN?
It's older, my guess is 90-92? Before the alloy frame, big one-piece seat.
The bike was cheap enough, it won't be a great loss if it can't be registered again, but if I can, it'd be nice.

I bought it from a kid who didn't know better. He painted the frame, so made it difficult, but I did find a VIN. So now a duplicate title can be arranged.
It's a '91, tenth digit is M.
It hasn't been started in a while, so I have some carb work to do, as well as other misc...
Will the larger CBR motors fit in this frame? I had a 600 Katana, and you could bolt any other air cooled motor into it.
