New to Sportbikes
 

Hello everyone. I am new to sportbikes. I road dirtbikes a lot when I was younger. I now am going to be getting a bike by the time the weather starts getting warm. I have looked at the research and the Honda CBR600RR seems to be a great starter bike. Any advice would be great, but you can not change my mind about that bike. I am looking for advice from new or experienced owners of a CBR600RR.

id start with something less powerful but then again thats just me. i bought beater and learned on that before moving to a race 600 then 1k

I hear ya. I wanted to get a bike with some power so that I may grow into it. I talked to guys that have been riding for a while and they stated that the CBR600RR would be ok to start on. So you don't think so?

Man I hope I don't have the see the infamous abadfish quote. If you want to start on a RR it's your choice, from what most people say your learning curve will be slower. If you go lower you will be able to get more experince a little quicker. Of course you will have to sell that bike and upgrade to where you want be, which from sound of it usally is one season. Some great start bikes that people talk a lot about are the gs500f from suzuki the SV650 with its v-twin. Also this year kawa is coming out with there new ninja 650R that promises to be very newbe freindly. Theres a lot of choices you could also go real low with a "baby" ninja 250cc. Like I said the consensus here seems be that you walk before you run. Also a lot say if you feel like you can keep your throttle hand under control a 600 is a decent place to start.

I say stick with the 600rr. I bought my first one this past August. I haven't had any problems with it and trust me you will get the hang of it quick especially since you've already been riding. The last time I rode a bike was like 10 years ago and that was for like 2 hours. That was the only bike experience I had when I bought the 600. Now it's hard to keep it under 85mph and I always try and push it little by little. I took it up to 125mph and that was a thrill. Stick to the 600 because I have a feeling if you get something smaller you are going to kick yourself for not getting the bigger bike.

Thanks patas75. Yes, I have avid experience on the dirt. I do agree with you on the fact that I may kick myself with a smaller bike. I believe that would be the case for me. I believe I will stick to the CBR600RR. I will keep the advice of Melantus in mind. I am just looking for advice from the experienced ones and all is well taken. I will enroll in the MSF course soon. Someone did recommend the Hayabusa to me. I watched a video of that thing and said I do not want my pants scared off. That thing was scary.
