new rider questions about 900rr

ive been riding bikes for most of my 20 years. whether that be 125 dirt bikes or 250 enuros. ive never owned a sport bike, but ive sure as hell been drooling over them for the last 5 years. ive ridden a gixxer 750 and 600 so i have....well a little experience if you would call it that.
anyways down to the point:
a deal has finally struck me in the face. after looking for so long ive found a 96 cbr 900rr selling for $3000 maybe less if i can talk him down. what i need to know though (besides if this is a fair price for a very well maintained bike) is if my size, wieght and i guess my age and tendancy to push the limit will match this bike.
i am a very careful rider, i havent taken the msf course yet but plan on it very soon. im only worried that im too gung ho about getting a bike and might buy a bike thats too large. im 5'9 at 130 pounds so ive always figured a 600cc bike would be my ideal baby. unfortunately i cant afford a new 600 and havent seen any deals on a used one.
i can nearly afford this 900rr though, and thats why i need to know from some experienced riders what someone in my situation should consider first.

a 900cc bike frankly scares me to be honest, but i almost want to consider buying it then perhaps trading or selling it for a smaller more agile 600.

thanks in advance.

that's a good deal. if it's in as good condition as you state i would buy it - especially this time of year. also, being a newer rider... a 600cc bike should scare you just as much as a 900cc because either will get you seriously hurt very easily. as for your size... you're fine. i ride with much smaller guys who are great riders. advice in a nutshell... respect the bike & know your limits. best of luck!

oh, and welcome to the forum! :D

Hello & Welcome!!:D

If the bike scares you...there's your answer...don't get it!

ok thanks alot
this weekend is supposed to clear up so ill test drive it then. cant wait :D

and to clarify i guess the bike doesnt scare me as much as i scare myself on the bike. i havent rode in almost a year and would be really embarrassed if i dumped it on a trial run (fat chance, but still unnerving). and in my small amount of experience on these bikes, i really do prefer the feel of a smaller 600 than even a 750 or larger bike. at this point i just want to ride, and this 900 may just be the answer i was looking for.

i need some pants and boots. anyone know of a good place i.e. cheap?

Well if your getting it and know you'll be scaring yourself with it....why get it? All bikes take some time to get used to and being that your returning to the sport, maybe you'll be okay with it if you just take it easy. Be careful!

I felt the same way. I was looking for a 600, and was wondering the same issues if a 900 may be too much for my first sport bike. I'm glad I went with the 900. I'm riding it easy right now, getting the basics down, and getting a good fell for her. Later with time, and when I'm ready, I'll have enough power under my pant to satisfy....well, you know what I mean ;P Get that 900 man!
