New Member from Western New York
Hey guys, new member here. I'm a 20 year old guy from Western New York (about 30 minutes from Buffalo). I work full time as an EMT for an ambulance company, and I spend a lot of my free time training and running calls with my volunteer Fire Department. I raced mountain bikes all throughout my teen years, from endurance racing, to downhill. I grew up riding and driving pretty much anything you can think of, from tractors and heavy equipment, to boats, to Four Wheelers and Dirt bikes. That being said, I've never ridden a street bike, realize that is it a lot different than riding off road. I also feel that my experience off road will apply to riding a street bike in a lot of aspects as well, specifically throttle/clutch control.
I don't currently own a street bike, but I'm 99% sure that I'm about to buy my cousin's CBR 600 F2, for $500. Seperate thread on that here. Mainly looking to get it for fun this summer, but also as backup transportation to my aging car, and to save some gas money. I joined the forum because I'm sure that I can learn quite a bit from those of you with more experience, and I'm also sure that I'll need some help figuring out how to fix the few things that are wrong with the bike I'm buying.
Anyway, Thanks for having me, and if you have any questions about me or my background, feel free to ask.

Welcome to the forum.
Riding street bikes on the street is a different animal than dirt. Experience on dirt is better than none at all though.
As an EMT, you've probably seen what can happen out there. Ride smart and be careful.
Street riding is still a lot of fun and great time....

Thanks guys! Going to check the bike out tomorrow, could have it home as soon as Friday.
Apparently though, the bike started and ran a month ago, but will not currently start. He tried a new battery, and couldn't get it to fire, says he hasn't looked into what's wrong with it any further. Is there any quick way to diagnose whether it's something serious or not?

Thank you all for the warm welcome! It's official, I bought my first street bike today! It's a 91 CBR600 F2, with 45k miles on it. Plastic needs some work, as does the wiring, but it runs like a champ. Not a bad deal for $500. Bike is paid for, title in hand, and I got it insured today. Went and got helmet, and my permit. Gotta go tomorrow to register it, and I'll be going to ride it home on Friday, weather permitting.
Will be posting a project thread in the appropriate tech section once I have the bike home and start to clean it up and figure out what's wrong with the wiring. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.
