We have always just known them as Fireblades here ..also shortened to just "blade" ..they absolutley exploded here in the early 90s and everyone and his brother got himself a blade .. I suppose with good reason, they really were *that* good ..anyone else from the UK remember one of our experienced motorcycle testers killing himself not long after launch?? ..I think it was superbike or performance bike or one of them ..I think he opened the taps too much too soon and hit a van, had a family and children too .. very sad

Jules
They did cause a bit of excitement - this is about the period when I got interested in bikes, and the Fireblade was THE bike of the moment. I've always liked the Fireblade, so am glad that I have the chance to own one now. It's a great bike.

Some years ago a friend gave me a go of his 96 blade and it kinda took my breath away .. it was the way it picked up and pulled on my wrists from just 2500rpm and then it just kept going and going ..lol ..I was far happier with my 600 ... but yes they did have a fiercesome reputation in those days ...

I had a 600 (ZZR)before the Blade and it seemed pretty powerful to me when I first rode it - but like everything you soon get used to it. Now it doesn't seem that quick until about 7000rpm, then it takes off! Good fun.

Nice CBR by the way [sm=smiley20.gif]- looks like a similar colourscheme to my bike.

I love the name Fireblade. Welcome. I ride one but of course here it's called the 1000RR now. I'd love to rebadge it properly.

Thank you, its funny I always loved these colours on mine from 1998 but they were not the popular choice back then, when I went to the dealers I was offered the all black/silver, the yellow/black and my copper/grey/black, they said if I choose the copper colour I can have it for £5400 instead of £5800 ... it took me a split nanosecond to decide ..lol

It's one of the few 'cool' names to come out of Japan and one of the most famous in biking- it actually came about through a mis-translation for a lightening bolt, I believe.

Thanks for the welcome!

Good choice - these schemes were ahead of their time, I think they still look modern now - although I prefer 'Burnt Orange' to Copper !![sm=smiley2.gif] Yellow and black never appealed to me personally.... then again the 'Burnt Orange' is a bit of a marmite one too.

I ws actually looking for a black/grey RRW at the time but this one came up at a price too good to refuse (I could sell it now for more than I paid!). When I saw it I liked the colour, I'm glad I went for it now - not too lairy but not dull either.

Yes, I still think they look modern too ... its funny mine changes considerably in different lights ... sometimes it can look quite dowdy but when the sun hits the metallic it turns into a bright burnt orange colour like you say :-) .. not too lairy and not too dull is my definition of classy!!
