New member with a question

Currently I have a 2003 2 stroke suzuki rm 250 (Dirtbike) that has been racing modified.. After market parts around 1200-1500. It has maybe 50 hours driving on it, at most. Took it out maybe 7 or 8 times. It turns on in the first or two kicks.

Someone is offering to trade me a 1994 cbr 900rr. The whole bike has roughly 25,000.00 miles on it. The engine has been re-built by an expert two years ago, and has maybe 5000 miles on it. It has new chain, tires, cables, bearings, in wheels grips, Full vance 4 into 1 exhaust hinson clutch. Now I am unfamiliar with the 1994 cbr 900rr, and am curious if the trade is worth it?

By the way, my name is Jeremy.

Any help would be great!

Thank you guys

Jeremy, you can't go wrong there. would this be your first street bike? the 900 is an awesome bike. I would do it. is the RM you only dirt bike? if it is then youhave to ask your self do you want to give up the dirt and mud? what shape is the Fairings in?

First off, welcome to the forum.

Now, what's the dirt bike worth in $$$$? What's the condition of the 900rr? What are they worth to you?
They are two different purposed bikes. Are you willing to make the switch? Are you comfortable riding on the street? Have you spent any time riding on the street? Some people never get comfortable street riding. It's just not as fun as they thought it would be. They spend a lot of money to find that out. For some of us, it's the best thing we've ever done.
If you can possibly swing it, try it for a bit and see if you like it before you get rid of your dirt bike.

It is my only dirtbike, however I don't really have time right now for a dirtbike, and I have only one car right now between my GF and myself and we just moved and are starting jobs in the next week or two. The guy took amazing care of the bike, kept it in tiptop shape, and the fairings look good! I just wasn't sure about the age of the cbr. It is a 1994 and was just curious if it still had some years left to go. Lately the weather has been sunny, and for most of the days when the sun is out it would be nice to not have to try and squeeze getting myself and the gf to work with different shifts!

You are new here, aren't you... Have a look around. 1994 is brand new compared to a lot of bikes around here. I'm shocked how many 80's bikes are still around. That bike has lots of life left in it, if it's been taken care of.

Jeremy, welcome to the forum. I have a 94' with 26K original miles.......1st. you must consider why was the bike's engine rebuilt? Have you ride it? Have it ever been down....most important question is, would you be buying/trading for a reliable bike.

Welcome to CBRF!

Jeremy, I understand your interest in the bike for transportation, not just fun. Its nice to have another means of transport than just a car. Plus, bikes are h-u-g-e savings on gas expense.

As for the decision of value/trade, that's going to be your decision based on your own research of values, etc. My question regard in the CBR is *why* was the engine rebuilt? A properly maintained CBR engine should not need a rebuilt at 25K. Nevertheless, if you have complete maintenance records that can show you the maintenance history of the bike, that would be a huge plus. Perhaps have the seller meet you at the local Honda shop for a pre-purchase inspection (you'll pay for) just to verify the condition of the bike. That might sway your decision.

The 900rr is a great bike & will serve you well, if its a good specimen.

Good luck w/ your decision.
