Default New Guy Today (Sept 6th)

Hello All,
I'm going to pick up a 1987 Hurricane CBR1000f tomorrow. I had one several years ago but I wanted an airplane and the guy that owned it insisted on getting my CBR as partial payment. I've missed it ever since! And, a picture of my old CBR is on the label of all of my company's products. SO, I found the same bike with the same color combo, black/red pretty cheap on CL & I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I know it needs an alternator or at least some work on it. Is there anything you all know about that become issues on these bikes that I should look at?
Thanks for being here, I look forward to picking the brains of those who know : )
I was going to post a picture of a label with the CBR on it but that might get me my first spanking here. Is that allowed?

Welcome aboard!

You should def check in w/ the guys in the 1000F section(s). They will let you know exactly what to look for.

I'd be interested in seeing that label. :-) But let's not make it a promotional item by placing it in your sig-line or posting it multiple times.

Welcome to the forum!

As GotCBR says, head into the Hurricane section and introduce yourself and fire away with all the questions you need answered. Despite first appearances there is much knowledge and wisdom to be found there!

Cheers, SB

Default Went to get the bike the bike... No Joy

Just got back from a few hours of driving only to return with an empty truck. The bike was misrepresented but the guy doing the talking was admittedly lacking knowledge to properly describe issues the bike has. He ended with "That's what my mechanic told me". The bike was just too rough & raggedy, everything I looked at needed something done to it.
I learned a good lesson today, have the seller do a Skype walk around before driving!
The hunt goes on!
PS, Here's one of our labels. That was my "88" CBR from 92 - 97. The same picture is on all of our products.
I guess I can't post pics yet?

Another will pop up. The prices will drop after riding season and around Christmas time too.
It's probably for the better anyway, since it sounds like it was in pretty bad shape.

You should be able to post pics soon. just keep posting...

Sorry to hear that. If I had a dollar for every bike I've looked at that turned out being a similar situation to yours, ...I'd have a LOT of dollars. ;-)

I like to tell the story of the RC51 I went to look at that only had 1 engine bolt keeping the engine in the bike. :O I'd told the seller that I would only be interested in purchasing the bike if I could remove the fairings. After his initial reluctance, he finally agreed. When I found only one engine bolt, he claimed ignorance (of course). Further inspection revealed that the engine number didn't match the title. Again, he claimed ignorance...but by that time, he knew that I knew he was lying.

You really gotta do your homework & be diligent when shopping for bikes.

Sorry you had that experience. Hope you find something else soon.
