New guy here

Hey all, thought I'd say hello to everyone here.
I'm a new rider sitting my IBT(MSF) course in a few days and couldn't be more excited. IBT here in Ireland is mandatory before you can take a bike on the road.

So what brought me to CBRForum is a recent law change in Europe allowing over 24's(I'm 29) to get direct access to bikes above 600cc without having to restrict the bike to 33bhp. As a result I've decided I'm gonna get a cbr600f.
I've read the pros and cons of getting a 600cc sports bike as a first bike but I'm gonna go ahead and get it. I'll spare you all a thread on the topic as I know this debate has been beaten to death. I can accept the longer learning curve and I'm already booking lessons to get myself up to a safe standard and beyond.

I've been pottering around these forums for a while before I registered. It's an amazing resource of knowledge for a new rider. Without even owning a bike yet I'm reading threads on modding and maintenance and getting more and more excited about riding.

Thanks for all the information so far and hopping to spend more time here in the near future.

hey hum, welcome to cbrf! there's nothing wrong with getting a 600 as your first bike IMO, good luck with your IBT. just remember to take it easy out there on the roads (but that goes for any motorcycle) see you on the forum.

Welcome brother man! Good choice of bike btw

Wish we had similar laws on bikes in South Carolina! These 16 year old fools around here split lanes with no gear OR helmet!!!

Thanks for the welcome :)
We have pretty strict laws about motorcycles here. We have to complete the IBT course to get on the road, then wait 6 months before we can apply for our driving test and only then can we drive on motorways(freeways?). Under 18s cant drive anything bigger that a 125cc I believe and over 18s are restricted to 33bhp for 2 years.
Also helmets are mandatory. I guess for some people motorcycles are a style thing, it boggles my mind why anyone would get on a bike without full safety gear. We take style out of the equation by forcing learners to wear illuminious yellow jackets with learner stickers on them :D

Just noticed I spelled "New" with a H in the thread title. The one part of the post without spell check... :icon_eek:

hi and welcome :icon_toast:

good luck with your test, the cbr 600 is a good choice of bike, just take it easy and enjoy two wheels

Welcome!
Yes take it easy with the bike but the cbr 600 is the best first supersport bike.
I had mine and i crashed a month after i brought. out of my house with 40 km/h when before that i was on 220km/h...
Be careful and the bike will not betray you.

Thanks for the advice,
I fully expect to be terrified by the bike for the first week or two.
Here's a bike I'm thinking of buying btw, I'll hopefully work the price down a bit though: Honda CBR600 F Sport
I have a couple of options but this seems in pretty good condition and has some nice mods too.
