Default New Guy Here

Hey guys, my name is Mike. I just put a deposit down on an F4 with just under 17K miles on it. It needs some maintenance but nothing too major. I'm picking it up next week and then dropping it off at the shop to let them have at it. I'm paying $2000 but it needs at the very least, two new tires and a tune up. There are a lot of little nicks and small scratches in random places on the fairings but there was no evidence on being dropped. No leaks, brakes look good, forks look nice and shiny with no oil leaks, the chain was taught on the sprocket with normal slack and the sprocket teeth showed no signs of hooking.

I am excited to start riding again. I have a lot to brush up on as it has been a long time since I was riding during the HD Riders Edge class. But when I am comfortable enough, I will be riding this every day to work (35miles each way).

Welcome Mike.
35 miles is nothing on a bike. It's just enough to get a good smile going... and put you in a better mood. Congrats on taking the plunge and getting the bike. You wont regret it.

Welcome to CBRF Mike!

F4s are great bikes. I have a 2000 F4. The '00 is the last carb'd CBR. No need to worry about the carbs tho, they are easily maintained. Although I have other bikes, my F4 gets ridden most.

Come on over to the F4 section & post up a pic when you get it.

Good to have you w/ us.

x1000

Getting insurance today. Going to practice on the residential streets and the grocery store lot for the next few days. I can make some laps around the park too. It has been a long time since my riders edge class (2+ years) but I do remember a lot of the drills. Already have my helmet, jacket, and gloves.

Once I feel comfortable, I'll make the 4.8mi trip to the motorcycle shop for an inspection and tuneup.

I'll try to get a video on here of me starting her up and revving it. I personally think it could use a carb cleaning.

Hey Mike, CONGRATS...I know how you feel. I've stop riding for a period of 6 years after having kids....then I got back on in 2007 an kept the same CBR to date. Take it slow and easy...do a lot of research on the bike. If you do plan on keeping this bike long term, I suggest learn to maintain DIY. It's not hard and you have CBRF here. So members here will go out of their ways to support each others. That's what I love about this site compare to others. BTW: that's a nice looking bike!

From the picture, tire looks like there are still life left on it...check the manufactor date. Hey, if it's still good, use it up until your next set...meanwhile shop around for specials, if you do find something at good deal, buy it for reserve...buy early save more...buy at last moment pay full retail.
