I'm looking for a 2001-03 cbr f4i. I'd like to spend around 3k for it. I'm looking at one 2001 right now (red/black) but this guy is asking for 4500. I offered him 3k he's going to get back to me. I just want it to be running an not be too beat up cosmetically.

Im not big on the bannana seats lol. That's kind of why I was looking at 01-03 they're split. I'm not even remotely sure how difficult a split seat conversion would be. If it wasn't very hard I'd probably do it... If I can't find one by the time I get home I may just take out a loan for a newer cbr 600.

Hey:

Welcome Spacemonkeyy, the f4 /f4i is one of the best all around bikes ever made. you'll be glad you decided on it. If you want to save some cash the split seat is not to bad to do as there is a good picture tutorial on here about how to do it.

Or try craigslist you might be surprised to find somebody that wants to trade for your color
or check out ebay.

Good luck on your search, when you get back check out local to you (Jacksonville, NC) and around Ft Bragg(Fayetteville/Raleigh) as they seem to have a pretty good selection around here in the Bragg area and local CL.

Hey thanks for that info. It looks like I may just end up waiting until I get back in a few weeks. That way I can really scope out what is available to me. Plus winter is coming up. I'm not sure how it works in the classified ads but I would imagin that since the dealers are dropping their prices then maybe people on CL would drop their prices as well.. I assume there is going to be a lot more available bikes in the winter.

As for the slit seat conversion, I'm just not very confident working on bikes because I dont have ay experience. It doesn't look too difficult but I feel like I might mess it up. If I found the right deal and came out on top I might consider trying a seat conversion. I guess it wouldn't be as bad as me performing surgery

The link CBR1988 provided for my split-seat tutorial. Thanks CBR1988! I didn't care for the banana seat either, especially for the track. Back when I was doing the split-seat conversion, there was very little info available & even fewer pics on the subject...so, I made the tutorial as I did the conversion.

Its not rocket-science. It just takes a little attention-to-detail, a term of which I'm sure you are keenly aware of in the military. It really is a -simple- process w/ my tutorial. Its a very straight forward conversion/swap. You just need the split-seat parts. My tutorial walks you thru the process step by step. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

So don't let the '01-03 split-seat models limit your shopping. If you want to get an '04-06, you can do your own split-seat conversion. I'll be glad to help you w/ it. Just let me know.

Be safe out there!

I just looked over the pics it seems like it wouldn't take very long to do. How long does it usually take you to do the conversion? So where exactly do you find split seats to convert?
