New to forum CBR1000f and ?'s asked!
Hello fellow Honda riders and motorcycle enthusiasts. I am new to this forum and look forward to immersing in all types of motorcycle discussions. I recently purchased a 1991 CBR1000f. My dad owns a 1997 Honda Blackbird and they both are parked side by side in the garage. We like to sit around and talk motorcycles while drinking a couple cold ones after we finish up work each night. When we get the opportunity to ride we do not let it slip by. (Carpe Diem) I have only owned my bike for about 2 weeks, but have accumulated nearly 1000 miles. The tachometer reads about 25,500 miles. It is in good condition with minor cosmetic damage and newer tires. Picked it up for 1,900 dollars. We believed it to be a good deal. Would you guys agree? The only thing that I need to do is change the chain and possibly sprockets. The chain is the original. I have been looking at the 530 DID chain or RK and possibly sprockets. Any advice or recommendations on brands? Also do you guys always recommend changing sprockets when changing chain? I want to get it into the shop before the weekend because we are planning an overnight trip to Dufur Oregon! Its not what Dufur can do for you, its what you can do for Dufur! Have a good night and Ride Safe!

Welcome to the CBR Forum EZ,
Glad to see you're enjoying your CBR1000F - they are indeed a great old bike. And wee just love to help to keep them on the road in the best condition.
I think you'll find the 'odometer' reads 25,500 miles, the 'tachometer' tells you the RPM.
You - ideally - should replace chain and sprockets at the same time.
Hop into the Hurricane Saloon and introduce yourself.
Cheers, SB

Welcome to CBRF! As far as your deal - it's not a car, it's a motorcycle. Too many factors come into play. But the biggest factor is do you feel like you paid too much for the experience of motorcycling? If not, you got a good deal! I know I over-paid way too much for my first 954, but I was happy to do so since it was exactly what I wanted. I would have paid more.
Unless you're flipping bikes for money, don't get caught up too much about what you paid.
520 chains will get the job done, and they can last a long time as long as you take care of them. Plus, chain vs chain compared to 530, 520's are cheaper.
1,000 miles in the first couple of weeks is a good solid job! Awesome!

Thank you for the welcomes! Conrice, I appreciate the perspective on motorcycling. Absolutely did not pay too much for that. Would have paid a lot more to be on 2 wheels tacking RPM's through back roads!
I have looked at the 520 chains as well. Looking for longevity and quality. If the price difference is not too bad then I will go with the better of the 2.
Have a good one guys!
