Default New f4i owner Midwest!

so i picked up this 2001 f4i about a week ago from a friend who hadn't ridden it at all due to the bike having issues from the previous owner. he really never had time to fiddle with it so decided to let it go and i had to pounce on it. I got it at a very good price but i did know i was going to be spending cash right off of the bat to make it road worthy, but i thought it was still worth the try. i'm not completely new to working on bikes. I have a couple other old hondas (1972 CB175 and 1975 CB200). they have been awsome to learn with but i wanted something better suited for going on the highway to work and riding with my buddies.

the day i picked her up, notice the droopy headlight, yup its been dropped and all the headlight tabs are broken.

when i took it home that evening (i live like 25 minutes away) i noticed several issues. the cluster was almost completely non functional, thus the reason i don't believe this thing has only 16K miles. speedo would work when it felt like it, tach didn't work. signal lights worked....only for the left blinker. yeah, total ****. the worst part by far was that it sputtered really bad and would die once i got it into higher gears. it was a bitch getting it home but just thinking about it i thought it is almost 100% sure that it needs new spark plugs. so i got it home and started wrenching.

yup thats a playboy bunny

this is the part where i ran into a poorly wired tail section and i don't know what else this person was trying to do. looked like it was wired by a 3 year old.

i didn't have a pic of it but the battery terminals were held on by electrical tape.

on to the plugs.

put it all back together so i could see how it ran. put the new black tail fairing on. took it out for a spin and it runs very nice.

it wont be ridden for a while cuz i still need to get my plates and next on the list would be oil change. I'm also going to put an oem chain and sprockets back on this. it has a 520 conversion -1 up front and +2 in the back. i'll check over all the systems again and hopefully get another gauge cluster and new headlight so i can start riding this thing to work.

any and all comments are welcome!

Thank you sir.

Yesterday I did the oil change. Maybe I'm crazy but it actually felt better after the oil change lol. On to more maintenance and gauges!

Welcome and it sounds like you've done a great job getting her up and running. I'm happy to hear the engine fix was small, hopefully the gauges will be just as easy.

thanks for the comments guys. I took the gauges off and opened it up. couldn't find any obvious issues. checked the wiring harness, look'd fine. I'm pretty sure its just completely fried. pretty much going to get another cluster. just sucks that theyre pretty pricey but i guess you gotta pay to play.
