New CBR In Utah
Howdy folks. I just joined up to keep tabs on tips and information and activities. I have been out of motorcycling for just a few months shy of 20 years now. The wife says I now have enough life insurance I can go ahead and start riding again.
My last bike was a 1984 CB700SC which I fell in love with for it's muscle-bike look and the low maintenace shaft drive, lash-adjustments etc. I love the CB in-line four engines. I used to drag race that bike at Baylands Drag (before it closed) in Fremont and later Sacramento Drags and Laguna Seca. Managed to pull wheelies with it on launch even though it was a pretty sophisticated shaft drive that didn't rise much. But I also LOVED the Hurricanes when they came out.
So...just this week I bought a 1987 CBR1000F to get back into the sport. It's in great shape, but really high miles. At 50,000 but so well-cared-for I think I can get another 30,000 to 50,000 out of it. Needs cam chain replacement probably to get rid of the first gen noise...but doesn't really bother me too much. Runs excellent. He is also selling me a GIVI rack and trunk. The whole thing: $1100. (You don't get much for bikes during Winter in Utah).
My only problem now is the plan was originally to buy an Interceptor 500 so my wife and my son turning 16 could learn to ride and start a family activity. So...maybe I'll have to buy a second bike next year. I found this one and fell in love with it so I don't feel bad at all. I will pick it up this week.
Can't wait to get back into bikes and I'm glad you all are here.

$1000 in that condition...excellent! Congrats.
Riding as a family is a great idea. Hope it works out for you all. Taking the MSF Course Motorcycle Safety Foundation would be a good idea. It will also help w/ lower insurance rates & licensing.
Welcome aboard. Good to have you w/ us.
