New Bike Help?!?!

New Bike Help?!?!
What's up everyone. My name is Ryan. I am 27 y/o from CT and I am happy to be a part of this group. I am currently shopping for my FIRST motorcycle ever. I have read around the various threads and understand that taking it easy, learning your limits, taking the proper training courses, and living to ride another day are of the utmost importance. With that being said, I am trying to decide between the 1000RR and the 600RR. I am six foot tall and 210 lbs. Is the 600RR too small for me? I have asked around and gotten different advice. Everything from the 600RR is too small for you, you'll get bored with it's lack of power/speed quickly, etc. On the other side of the spectrum I hear that the 1000RR is too powerful for a first time rider or it's perfect for me. HELP! What is true and what is BS? I appreciate eberyone's support and thrive on as many responses as possible. Thanks.

OK..so your an inch taller and got a few lbs on me and your sposed to get bored with goin from 0-60 in like 3 seconds...some friends u have....i went from a solid 60 to 100 without even blinking an eye..the 600RR is that damn kewl...go with your choice but if youve never ridden and i know it s been said before...learn the ins and outs on a 600 before sitting on top of a 1000...its only being fair to yourself. With that being said...best of luck in your decision..

The 600 RR won't be too small for you. I'm about two inches taller and more pounds than I care to admit heavier and the 600 still pulls me around like I'm not even there. There's plenty of power to go around on the 600, and it's still tame enough (tame being a very subjective word) to be a good bike to learn on. But take it really slow, I had ridden for 8 years before I got my first sport bike and I'm still amazed at the power.

I think you would be good on a 600rr. I weight 255 and that thing moves me just fine. I am a new rider also, and twisting the wrist accidently will be much more forgiving on the 600 than the 1000. Like others have said learn on the 600 and then decide if you want the 1000. if you buy a couple year old bike you wont lose much money when you trade up for the 1000.

if this is your first bike ever, do not get a 1000, a 600 will be enough power and more then enough power for you, I am 6 foot 235 lb and like what others have said, it will get you from 0 to 60 in a blink of a eye. I ride a 600rr and I still scare my self on it,, if you get bored with it that fast then you need to go ride dirt bikes now there a kick in the a$$.

Couldn't agree more that a 600 is what you want. There was an editorial in Motorcyclist recently on how insane the liter class bikes are. I've got a 94 600F2, which has considerably less HP than a newer 600RR, and it's got plenty of get-up-and-go and I am about the same weight/height as you..

Ryan,
I'm with everyone else on the 600 VS 1000 point. Another point is that the ergos between the 600 and the 1000 probably aren't that much different. Because of the increased focus on performance, the 1000 isn't too much larger than the 600, at least from the rearset-seat-bars stand point. Good luck with which ever one you choose and welcome to the group!

600rr all the way...dont know who told you to get a 1000 for your first bike, but they must not like you very much or they are in your will. since its your first bike you need to take it slow, and you just cant do that on a 1000. i have a 87 cbr 600 and given that i am a small guy, my bike will still get up and way quicker than you would imagine. and if you are getting a newer bike, it will pack a considerable amount of technology and performance upgrade over mine. you will be fine on the 600, after you get comfortable trade it in for a 1000. good luck, and get some good gear, all of it. take it slow and be careful, seems like you have a good sense of what your mentality needs to be, now dont let that slip cause you want the bigger and badder bike to BEGIN on.
