Default looking at two bikes, my first post.

my first post, hi all.

im looking at two bikes, an 05 cbr600rr=$5000 and an 01 600F4i=$4500.

both have about 4k miles on the bike. the rr has been dropped in drive way the guy claims. the f4i is mint suposedly. i wont be able to tell till i go look at them both.

what can u all tell me about these two bikes? wich will be more enjoyable to ride for long trips, as well as daily comutes about 11 miles one way (4 miles highway/7 miles back roads) to work.

im not looking for anything bigger, and i dont plan to go fast. just have fun.

thanks,

Brian

welcome, I would go with the 05 cbr600rr, 4 years makes a huge difference and i have a real hard time believing that an 01 only has 4000 TRUE miles on it, I put that much on every six months. But either way their both hondas, your gonna like it.

there was a thread on here sometime recently and up to 100,000 is not uncommon and some people claim to have seen bikes with over 400,000. my last bike had 18k and it still ran like a champ

I have 05 F4i and it has 20.000 miles as of today. It still runs great. It's been a year since I got it and didn't drive my car for the last one year. Rainy, dry, cold, hot she didn't complain once. But I made sure her maintenance is done on time.

In this case RR is newer bike and I would go with it (if it's also in good condition). Whichever you buy make sure it's in good condition.

05 F4i's has comfortable seating, higher handle bars and lower pegs which is more comfortable for long trips. But it's your call, buy the one that you are going to enjoy to ride.

Welcome to the forums

when u guys are test riding a used bike, (buying a used bike), what things are u looking for? iv ridden dirt bikes for ever, but no street bikes. i currently ride my KTM on the streetsand is much different then a CBR.

is there a good thead on buying tips?

if i find any other cbr 600's with 20k on them, there probably safe to buy and good to ride till they die?

I would have NO problem buying a high mileage bike IF the owner can prove proper maintenance was performed throughout the bikes life. If he/she says "I change the oil every 2000 miles" but doesn't have something to back it up, I'd take those words with a grain of salt. When I bought my first bike (ninja 250), the guy had detailed maintenance records accompanied with receipts.

In my opinion, $4500 for a 01 F4i is kinda high; that's close to KBB retail. If it is indeed mint, I would offer $4000 and see if he's willing to negotiate. I got my 02 F4i for $3800, and it had 13K miles.

Here is a used motorcycle buying guide that can help you out. Some of the info on that site doesn't apply, so pick and choose.

Good luck on your purchase.

well I just test road the cbr600rr 2005 bike tonight. its got damage to the fron were the left mirror I mounted, the left platic engine cover, and the upper most corner of the gas tank. and the rear is slightly cracked. scratches randomly all around the left side of the bike. the guy said he would take $4800 for the bike. im use to my KTM on the street. the cbr feels like it wants to fall over in slow turns, and just does not feel as easy to throw around. its the 3rd sports bike iv ridden in my life. im going to try and barrow a friends gsxr750 to ride to c if it feels the same.
