Exclamation Looking at couple bikes

Looking at 2002 cbr f4i 17k miles comes with 2 helmets and jacket for $3k and a 2005 cbr rr for $3750 with 10k miles.

My question is the 2005 is a great deal but pushing my budget b/c I would still have to buy a helmet and a jacket.

Is 17k a lot of miles on a bike? Is $3gs a good deal?

Out of those two bikes I would get the 600rr because of the mileage difference, and just try to not spend too much on the jacket/helmet.

F4i for couple reasons
  • Comes with some gear, which it sounds like you need
  • Costs less. Since both are used you might be needing some reserve cash for repairs / maintenance

Nothing will suck more than having a bike sit in the garage because you lack the gear. It'll just tempt you to ride without the gear. Or cause it needs a little work to run right. Sure the previous owner might start it up and it'll sound right. He might even let you take it on a test ride around the block. But you won't be able to open her up till its yours and that's when you might discover its time to wrench her a bit.

i say the f4i, it's easier on the budget, as you said. and by all means, take the jacket and all the gear, but i never condone buying a used helmet. some people don't really think twice about it. but i would drop the extra $200 for a NEW helmet. used ones could have been dropped on the ground, put in boxes, damaged, etc.

and yeah, 17k isn't very much on an f4i. some guys have over 100k.

If you price out 2 NEW helmets & a jacket, you will be looking at less than the $750 difference. I would not go with the used helmets, you have no idea how they were treated & your head is worth more than taking a chance on a dollar difference. Spend for the bike that's in better shape & get your head protected with your choice of protection.

Just found out the 2005 RR was a rebuilt title. Nothing wrong with that but I rather have a clear title for future selling it if I needed ever to.

Of course we got blanket with snow this weekend so I want to at least drive around the block with the f4i. Any thing I should look for in 2002 600 f4i or just in general?

Is $3,000 a good deal on f4i with jacket and helmets? (I can sell the helmets for like $40 each I bet and get 1 new one)

F4i's can go for $2800 - $4800 depending on shape n mileage. You're gonna buy a $80 helmet? dunno about you, but my heads worth more than that

For the price difference he could get the f4i, a good helmet and prolly a good pair of riding pants (or an adequate pair of boots)
