Default just got my F4i

Hey everybody!

I'm new on this forum. I used to have a 2003 Yamaha YZF600R. Loved that bike! Logged about 9000 miles in the canyons in just under 5 months. Got rid of the YZF and picked up my 2003 F4i last Friday. I must admit, it's gonna take me some time to adjust to how it handles -- much more nimble and flicky than my old 500lb beast so my corner speeds and lines in the canyons are gonna change a bit. I'm loving the 60lb. weight difference! This feels like a mountain bike compared to my old Yammie!

This is me playfully whining/complaining:
What the hell is up with the one headlight for low beam and one for high beam?!?! That looks friggin retarded!!! I may break down eventually and do that mod where they're both on. Oh yeah, and the clutch cable partially blocking the odometer. Yeah yeah, I know it's a motorcycle and the motor is 5 inches below my crotch...but damn, this is WAAAYY hotter than my old bike. (but thank god no CCTL problem.....yet)

But seriously, I'm super stoked about this bike. Looking forward to many fond memories and great rides on the F4i.

Anyway, I hope this site gets rolling and becomes THE place to go for all things CBR related.

my '03 F4i
bought it off some lady who babied it for 1500 miles and decided she wanted a Cadillac instead. (damn, if she was gonna custom upholster the seat, why not stick a gel insert in there or something...grrrrrr). Paint matched mirrors are sweet. Just gotta chuck the stock signals and do something about the ginormous rear fender with that weird license plate light. gawd, that thing is fugly.

Congrats on the bike! I also had a YZF600 and it was a great bike, really comfortable and AWESOME brakes. And with your Honda you can buy popular size tires!!!
The F4i is fuel injected so that should be nice especially if you ride in higher elevations ( mountains).
I see you live in CA..so do I, except I live in Northern CA.
Take care and ride safe!!
Are you going to attend the MotoGP races at Laguna next July?? I just rented a RV for the weekend but the camp spots arent for sale until end of October

yup, that YZF had really good brakes. But a bike that heavy really NEEDS good brakes. I gotta say, the extra weight had its advantages too. It felt REALLY planted and stable through corners, ESPECIALLY bumpy corners. That bike just absorbed and smoothed out any road surface irregularities so well. I am just now realizing how stable and confidence inspiring it was and can now appreciate it a lot more (the YZF was my first bike). But as great as the bike was, I think the bike was a bit too heavy for me and my style of riding. The occasions where I had to brake while leaned over, that YZF stood straight up immediately. The F4i doesn't want to stand up as easily, a characteristic that is PRICELESS in the twisties!!!

I personally love the way the F4i handles and I can't wait for this Saturday -- it'll be my first time with this bike on my usual Saturday group ride through the canyons. It's gonna be a blast!

As for the 2005 MotoGP races, if my schedule is clear (school), then I'll definitely be there. I actually stopped by Laguna Seca two weeks ago. I did a 3-day back-highway tour (Hwy 33 -- 58 -- G14 -- 198 -- 25 -- PCH) on my YZF600R from Santa Monica to Central Coast (San Luis Obispo -- Monterey -- etc). Laguna Seca looks impressive in person and I can't wait to see the boys tearing it up on two!!

Hey, I have a 2004 F4i, and I don't know WHAT is up with the one headlight thing. You can go to stuntlife.com and search for the wiring diagram, I know SOMEONE on there has it! This website is kinda dead, huh? Is it new? [8D]

This website is a little dead but its brand new so that can be expected. I like having only one light on my 04 1000rr, it makes for a conversation piece. Everyone thinks one of the lights is burnt out. So how do you like your new F4i, F4iGuy? I've had my CBR for about 3 weeks and I love the bike. You can make the bike move by just shifting your hips. Track days are going to be great with the new bike.

I found this on another CBR forum. Unfortunately the pictures were taken down from the hot link. But, the instructions seem pretty straight forward on the conversion. Good luck, and enjoy!!

hope this helps on converting your H7 to H4. both of these bulbs use the same socket so no modifications are needed to run the H4's its just a matter of adding wires and re-routing old ones. You dont have to use H4's on both housings its totally up to you and doing this mod will let you go back to H7's whenever you want without having to do anything other than switching bulbs (but the highbeam fucntion will be done on a seperate ON/OFF switch), but after this mod who would want to go back to the winky look?
You will need:
ON/OFF switch
Wires (perf 2 different colors)
H4 bulbs
and this yellow wire availabe from "Honda" car dealer:

i think part # is 04320-sp0-j10

modify the H4 to the same size as the H7, scissors will do the trick. cut around the edge of the H4 to make it smaller. you dont have to get this perfectly round, just enough to get it in the housing.

(H4 is the yellow bulb)

now here is the stock wiring diagram, green wire is the ground. Blue with White is the positive for the low beam and Blue is the positive for the highbeam.

now its a good time to get your 2 different colored wires and wrap them in electrical tape to make a wire harness. 1 1/2 feet long will be more than enough. i used purple and red in the diagram so you can see where to hook them up. put the yellow wires on the top post. they will click once locked and the wire will be routed by the green wire (no modification needed to put the yellow wires in).

here is the diagram on how its supposed to be after the mod.

install an ON/OFF switch , remember before the mod the bike only had one bulb on when its in the "ON" position, but after the mod it will have two. so keep the new switch on the "OFF" position before you turn the bike ON and before you turn the bike off. I bought a small toggle switch and installed it on the right intake runner cover.
also dont forget to change the headlight fuse from 10amp to 15amp. this allows you to be able to use H4's on both housings. remeber before the mod you only powered 2 filaments with the highbeam ON and after the mod you will be powering 4 filaments with the highbeam ON.

here is what i looked like with just the low beams:

here it is with the highbeams ON:

i used a yellow bulb because its more noticable and it doesnt bother the other divers on the road. you would still have to point the highbeam housing down if you want to use regular white ones. Like i said before, i've had this mod for about a while now and i have not had any problems at all (other than when my brother left my bike in the "on" position without the bike running and drained the battery.... freaking idiot!!). i also recomend this mod over the "pointing the highbeam down" method, beacuse what are you gonna use when you need to flash people??
and as you all now i will not be responsible for any damage you do to your bike blah blah blah....
if you guys have any other questions you can hit me up at dgr8wun@yahoo.com
this might work on other bikes too, just see the stock diagram and and compare it to the f4i, if its done the same way then this mod will work.
