How to prep for paint?

Ok im a newb and I understand that, I no everything about cars, but this is my first bike... I was wonder what are the steps, ways to prep the fairings/plastics. I know sand off all the paint and my sure its smooth but is that it? Special stuff that sticks to the plastics? Certain primer? Ect.

Thanks,

RE: How to prep for paint?

Hi SilverF4iman, welcome.

The process is very similar to painting cars. I don't think that you'll have to sand all of the "factory" paint off, except if the decals were cleared over. Just sand the factory paint smooth with 400 grit wet. I've painted a couple motorcyle bodies and just used automotive paint, primer, etc. One impotant thing to do is to wash all of the pieces in wax & grease remover, before you sand them, after you sand them, and before you apply paint to them.

I suggest you also consult an automotive paint supplier for primer and paint recomendations. That is what I did.

Good Luck and have fun!

Hello & Welcome!!:D

Keep it clean after removing the paint. It's like painting your nails, but more intense!
