Got the beast all reassembled today. New (Ebay new to me) coolant housing, fresh oil, everything mentioned above. Ran like garbage. I expected this... as I neglected the carbs. I REALLY didnt want to pull them because I'm lazy and I was crossing my fingers. I did test ride it and all around the block?

Nope, I took it for a short spin and the carbs are SO STICKY! The butterfly's snap shut and all, but the RPMs are staying revved way to long and once it warmed up, it was idling at 4k rpms. When I adjusted the idle screw, it just died.

Will work on those the next week in between shifts. Looking for a carb vacuum synch tool.

Also ordered a valve adjustment tool, cover gasket, and water pump o rings(the pump started leaking after all) looks like it's been doing it for some time actually. One right at the impeller and the other into the block!

Finally, this bike has a bad ignition keyblock, looks like someone went after it with a screw driver. Found a cheap Chinese one on ebay for a 1988. The wiring is different, but it looks like I can attach mine to the key block. I'll have to have separate keys for the gas tank and helmetlock, but oh well. Better than someone walking up and just switching it on no problems. ..

More to follow

Removed carbs today. Two of the pilot jets were plugged and broke when removed from corrosion (and force) bought carb kits from parts unlimited.

anyone know where the heck the gasket on the right goes?

The kind of circular ones? They go on the inlet side of the carb. Check out call #2 on this link
