lol i always stop on left foot for some reason and ride brake with right.
i can come to almost a complete stop with no feet on the ground but that takes many years of exp with a harley.... well 2k miles on my cbr 1k,
on my 954 i had 6k miles, and 16k on my sporty 1200. Just take ur time lean the bike hard left on a stop and ur short stature shouldnt matter I dont think just stomp ur foot on the ground. Omg i bough that sporty in september of 05 so that means I have 24 k in less than 2 years woot.

Hey ididntdoit5150,
Welcome to the forum. I have the same exact bike and I love it just at much. And I also have to stop and stand on my tipy toes so I feel your pain. However, i do have experience from my cruiser that I have had for 3 years. So I have more confidence as a rider and my only real worry is not being flat footed when I stop. If you are a new rider period, you need to build up your confidence in all aspects of riding, not only your stopping. All I can say is to take your time and try to never panic. Take more time to stop and be very careful about where you are going to touch down. Don't try to stop on painted lines since they might be slippery, dont stop close to the middle of the lane since the oil from cars usually drips in the middle. Also, try to always stop with your handle bars straight, if you try to stop while trying to turn the momentum towards that side might tip you over. So even at a turn, straighten your bike out and stop very slowly so the momentum doesn't hurt you. Just remember that once we get going, we're just as good as all other riders....lol....if you take the riding class they will teach you to brake with both brakes, and downshift into first as you stop, then to touch down with your left foot. This works on those little bikes, but i have not gotten used to it even on my cruiser, I like to touch down with both feet. But if you practice, you might be able to stop like that.

Oh....and I dont think i'm going to lower my bike, there seem to be too many cons that come with that option.

Practice, Practice, Practice, and Have lots of fun.

What is special edition ?

How can someone be 5'10" and still have issues? You have some short legs!!!

The MSF wants you to stop and put your left foot down. I would say work on doing that every time so you are braking with your right.

To be honest, check out the ladies' lounge. If you want real expertise on how short people make do on bikes, your expertise will be there. Not to offend you if you are a dude. I got some great tips on how to stay on my dad's skyscraperish KLR 650 there and I am a 5'8" tall male. Anyway, snoop around the ladies' lounge a while and you will become an expert on just exactly how dropping your tail will affect your handling as well as learning some possible alternatives, like sliding your crotch off the side of the bike to lower the resting foot on the pavement, then hopping back up and hitting the throttle when it is time to go.

lol, thanks you guys for the advice. two good things that i do have to my advantage that i guess i forgot to mention is that 1, i am a pretty experienced dirt bike rider so i do know how to ride pretty good, and on the sportbike i have kinda just adapted to kinda leaning to one side at a stop and being pretty solid on the ball of my foot. also, 2, i have been competitively racing cars for 6 1/2 years so i am pretty dang comfortable around the streets and i guess that helped because i have been starting to ride the major streets and its not too bad and am not nervous at all.

Drekkyk - not sure if you were talking to me, but im not 5'10", im actually 5'3".

and to Baileyjn - just to clear things up, i am DEFFINETLY NOT A WOMAN lol, i am a guy and not sure about the rest of you guys, but i am only 17 years old.

ididntdoit,

hey welcome to the forum and welcome to the cbr community. i wll tell ya i've had a couple of problems with that when i first started riding and trust me you'll get thru it. what i've noticed when i started riding was that i tended to put my left leg down first due to the fact that in my msf class they told me to use both rear and front brakes hence my right foot is all tied up. i do this alot and now i just push off with my left leg if needed. one thing i would mention is just to practice doing stop and go's in a parking lot. helps out alot!!! also a buddy of mine is pretty short but he has more experience riding than i do. what he told me to keep doing was to practice (at idle or even when bike is off, in neutral) using only your left leg or one leg to push your bike around. this exercise will help you out a bunch. hope this helps! and also sweet bike... b4 picking my f4i i had my eyes on that one but RR's seemed a little fierce for my taste. if you're into cars, i always said that it's like the Type-R of bikes... LOL

have fun riding and stay safe...
